Are you ready for the next Big One?

Sep 28, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Pocono Record

Editor's note: As part of September's National Preparedness Month, the Pocono Record recruited a Stroudsburg family to test their readiness in the event of a manmade or natural disaster.

Next big one???

Was that minor irritant last fall a 'big one'??

But just for the record I now have a well bucket and two 100 gallon rain barrels(one at the cabin and one for the house)

As recently as last year, preppers were being ridiculed.

Well when most of those 'preppers' were city people trying to play at self reliance what do you expect.

I remember growing up being without power and phone for a week at a time and parts of the river road blocked for days. The hardest part is getting enough water to cook and flush. Hence the stock tanks.

I remember taking a shower with just a bucket of water. We do collect rainwater for the garden. I have been looking at those straws that purify the water enough to drink. After the 1955 flood, we added chlorine bleach to the buckets of water.

Most of those straws are single use. Boiling the water then running through one of those filter pitchers they sell in the store should work well enough.

Some day I may get one of these.

You can use a tampax too, just not the scented/flavored ones. They are also handy for plugging bullet holes.

The Pocono Record neglected the gun part of survival. Odd since they too have been pushing for a civil war.

I would hate to be a garbage man doing pickups after the 'next big one'.

I am not sure it is legal to send untreated sewage to a land fill.
