Conditions on disabled cruise ship in dispute

Feb 13, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: KWWL-TV Waterloo

HOUSTON - A cruise line says it is making the passengers stranded aboard a disabled ship in the Gulf of Mexico as comfortable as possible with running water and some working bathrooms, contradicting the accounts of some passengers who told relatives of filthy, hot conditions and limited access to food.

Dispute?

Small space, thousands of people, source of food, plumbing interrupted.

Miserable conditions...PERIOD!

I can imagine that for a small section of society (but not that small) , the inconveniences they are encountering are probably seem as drastic as incarceration in a south american prison. Sorry S.A.

Think about that though -- they're busing ppl out right away to New Orleans to AVOID having to stop here while our region gets stuck with the stinkpot ship & the repair work.

Congrats Mobile you are now officially their janitor maid b**ch.

Your job is to be the reliable loser who cleans up the mess of the party while your idiot drunk cousin gets the babe & the money.

Yea, f**k that.

Carnival is attempting to manage the news coverage & keep the lid on passengers until it's all tied up.

Discomfort and inconvenience is onething but this is a health concern at this point. They shut down restaurants for far less.

They need a quadroople refund for this.

$500; refund for this "cruise", voucher for another cruise (!); lodgings @ New Orleans hotel & charter flight to Houston next morning/take the bus all the way to Houston tonight.

Carnival is already gearing up its lawyers for a class action suit, and they want it to be a good one, I guess.

I don't think the dangers of a large dead in the water ship are being emphasized enough. I heard on the news tonight the wind and/or current pushed the ship around 180 degrees. If there was a severe storm it could've capsized. They could've had a very orderly life boat evacution with other ships in the ready to pick them up.

I don't understand why they didn't just evacuate the people from the boat. What do they have to turn over like the Costa Concordia to get help?

I heard they were heading for messico, since the crew knew they wouldn't make it there they thought they would bring the messican raw sewage experience to them.

Unlike messico, they could at least drink the water.

No one can plan for these happenings. We can all sit back and say what could have, should have been done but I doubt any of these armchair quarterbacks out there actually have any training or expertise on how to handle an emergency at sea. Why not wait and see what the investigation of the fire and what the USCG reports say before we jump in and try to run the boat. Companies like Carnival didn't get where they are by bad management and they sure as he%% didn't plan to lose MILLIONS in damages and restitutions to passengers. Passengers should be glad they are back and got passage back home.. Airplane passengers don't get that after a crash!

They could've but the lawyers were afraid of an injury or fatality lawsuit. They're still going to wind up getting sued by 3000 survivors.

You station rescue ships a few hundred yards away. Lower the life boats, send to the ships and pick them up. This could've been done on their own terms ie calm waters and weather. There would'nt have been a frantic rush of a sinking ship.

If one person dies from ecoli or disentary they're sued for a fatality anyway.
