Richard Shiffman wrote in the Atlantic that a document which will guide the Paris 2015 conference on global warming has just been released. This will be the fifth Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, IPCC, since it began in 1988 and represents the work of over six hundred researchers from thirty-two countries. They have been the guiding documents to the Kyoto and further climate summit meetings.
Some thing are not addressed by the study. Dr. Tim Barnett of Scripts Institute of Oceanography says, "There are more things going on; the acidification of the oceans is happening alot faster than anyone thought it would, it's sucked up more CO2, plankton, the basic food chain of the planet, it's such a hugely important signal."
The elephant in the closet that no one wishes to address is methane, another greenhouse gas thirty times more effective at trapping heat, being released with warming from terrestrial and oceanic sources. These sources, such as the vast frozen tundra of Russia, are large.
Jason Box, a visiting researcher at Byrd Polar Research Center, feels we are creating a different climate than the world has ever seen. He worries the natural systems we can manage will lose the ability to exert control and the problem will be out of our hands sooner than we realize.
