House scraps vote on Hurricane Sandy aid

Jan 1, 2013 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: KCRA-TV Sacramento

In a move that surprised many lawmakers and angered others, House Republican leaders wrapped up this session of Congress Tuesday night without voting on a package that would have provided billions of dollars in aid to victims of Superstorm Sandy.

Is there any doubt that Republicans are enemies of the people? These mean spirited toadies of the rich couldn't care less about the suffering that Hurricane Sandy brought to the northeast. They should be ashamed, but these conscienceless crumbs lack the capacity for even feeling shame. The Republican Party is going to go the way of the Dodo Bird.

You are uninformed. The bill contained 50 billion in pork and only 9 billion in Sandy aid. Today the House passed the 9 billion for Sandy aid and put on hold the 50 billion in pork. I suppose it would be just fine for you if they had passed the whole bill and put us another 50 billion in debt for YOUR politicians? Get your facts straight!

Not Quite.
Aside from your spin on the subject, why the snarky response?

Please spare us the melodramatic lip service.
Frnakly,we need to know more about three things:
(1) If you're sincere about turning over a new leaf, then why so inconsistent?
(2) What's about this "pork" you claim is so prevailant in the aid package for Sandy victims?
(3) Why do you and others find it so easy to dismiss the tragedy those victims are experiencing so callously?

Now that we have that settled, what exactly is not quite right? The bill for Sandy was loaded with pork. The House approved 9.7 billion for Sandy relief. They did not approve the remaining 51 billion that is not specific to Sandy or the East coast. A huge chunk of that money was to be used to replenish the flood insurance program which the government had not bothered to fund. IT included 4 million for Kennedy space center in Orlando. IT included 150 million for fisheries in Alaska and Mississippi. It included 821 million for dredging projects nationwide that were not located in Sandy areas. You can argue that some spending could be used for Sandy but it is not direct emergency for Sandy victims or rebuilding. It is pork. These programs go on and on. Washington must fix this exact type of problem. The CBO also stated that out of the 60 billion, only 9 billion would be spent in the next 9 months. That is hardly an emergency aid bill. That is a government stuff your pockets while we have the opportunity bill. Itís just not right. Aid is aid and should be used to help those victims, not replenish state coffers for neat programs.

I have NEVER and would NEVER dismiss any tragedy related to Sandy or any other disaster and would never act in a callous manner about such awful tragedies. That is an out of line accusation and very very awful. Canít even begin to understand why you would say something like that!

We needed a bill that directly aided the Sandy victims immediately. We didnít need a bill that allowed politicians to exploit and fund their own Christmas time goody programs. Another question comes to mind, just where did this 60 billion come from? We donít even have it. At a time when the US faces such massive budget problems it is not irrational for a politician to exercise fiscal responsibility regardless of what side of the isle they fall.

Again I am just thrown at your comments. So much so that I canít see straight..Very very upset. Walking outside.

Thank GOD for Boehner. That Harry Reid had ladled over $17 BILLION in non Sandy related PORK on the Bill in response to the demands of the Democrats Union Masters.

Boehner passed legimate Aid requests while sparing our children more massive DEBT slathered on them by Reid and the demonic leftists who have taken over the Democratic Party in the Senate.

http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/04/politics/house-...

Worth a read.
It dispells a lot of the uninformed (and frankly pointless!) rhetoric being displayed herein.
The part about this whole thing that really bothers me is that it took FEMA only 10 days to get aid to Katrina victims, yet for Sandy victims we're at 68 days and still counting, thanks to a disfunctional Congress.
If things like this weren't so serious they would almost qualify as high comedy!
Meanwhile all you armchair quarterbacks play your silly brinksmanship games in chat forums like this one.
Do nothing but bitch and moan about it!
I find that callous, in spite of Root's hissy fit about my sentiments.
Don't forget:
The rest of the 50 million will be up for aapproval on January 15th---will we see more of the same dithering?
Anyone willing to take odds on that?

What you said was out of line. I wanted money to the victims fast. That could have been done if it werenít for all the pork in the bill. Still, what you said is out of line and what I said doesnít even approach the point of callous or a so called hissy fit. Thatís just downright mean spirited and unproductive.

Another question for you Root....
Why is it you seem to have a lot of trouble dealng with what you consistently dish out toward others?

Maybe you should go back to Dallas.
When you post from there. it seems you're a lot more mature.

So now weíre going to change the subject? Ok

I didnít dish anything out to anybody. No place on this topic have I dished anything. Frankly I found what you said to be out of line and rude. Maybe you donít. I donít know. If you donít feel that way well I donít know how you feel but I have a very sad feeling about it. So you do what you want. Iím not going to trade jabs with you. Oh and by the way I would be glad to go to Dallas and wish I could live there! Itís a fun place. Whatever that means.

Feigned self pity doesn't become you Root.

Face it Root--you can dish it out, but you take offence when even the slightest criticism goes your way.

What was said to you was nothing compared to some of the many rude and crude insults you've often dished out.
What about all those nasties you posted ad nauseum about Canada and Canadians!!
How "out of line" and "sick" were those comments......?

Like I said--you act much more maturely when you post from Dallas.

Letís get something straight. I apologized for those things I said about the Canadians. You should stop bringing up history and admit what you did was wrong. Also I never dished anything out! You keep saying that as if itís some kind of reason for you to be mean. Why? I also donít live in Dallas and I havenít been to Dallas since my sister graduated from SMU in 05. I do like the city though.
