Climate skeptic Marc Morano rips claim that global warming causes cold weather

There are 14 comments on the The Daily Caller story from Jan 27, 2014, titled Climate skeptic Marc Morano rips claim that global warming causes cold weather. In it, The Daily Caller reports that:

Climate skeptic Marc Morano tore into the argument made by environmentalists and climate scientists that the recent spell of cold weather hitting the U.S. is further proof of man-made global warming.

Here are some scientists talking about global warming and its effects on the weather.

"Basically, global warming causes less snow, except when global warming causes more snow,” Morano told Fox News host Neil Cavuto.“And it causes less cold, except when it causes more cold."

Fifty years ago, there were icicles twenty and thirty feet in length hanging from the cliffs in major Southern cities. Would the AGW fear mongers tell us such was due to global warming? Eighty years ago, there were droughts and heat spells that caused economic malaise across the whole country; none of the recent heat spells, or droughts compare with those. The trick of the fear mongers is to try convincing a new generation that cold weather and almost unimaginable icicles have never existed, that heat and drought are new, even though forest fires today are much, much less frequent than in earlier times.

Of course, AGW is causing the present cold spells. AGW enhanced warm fronts push into the high Arctic, & have dramatically raised average & widespread temperatures above the 80th parallel, where few people are. Present temperatures are high at -17degC., 12degC(22degF) over average, its highest for the last month plus, which already have been over-temperature . The warm fronts have so much energy, they flush Arctic cold south to the U.S., setting records & lots of people complain.

Who can say Morano is an idiot.... everyone that knows science & mathematics. Of course, touched toxic topix AGW deniers have no science, chemistry, astronomy, physics, algebra or pre-calc in their poorly (or non-) earned hi skule DEE-plooomaas.

No, of course not, but the fact that winters like that are very rare now *is* evidence of global warming.

And the fact that when winters like that do happen in the US it's a result of a climate shift in the Arctic is also evidence of global warming.

"Study 'reconstructs temperatures in Northern Fennoscandia [within the Arctic circle] over the past 1,600 years and finds more non-hockey-sticks clearly demonstrating that the Arctic was warmer than the present during the Medieval Warm Period. The paper adds to over 1,000 peer-reviewed published non-hockey-sticks finding the Medieval Warm Period was global, as warm or warmer than the present, and that there is nothing unusual, unnatural, or unprecedented about the current warm period. Furthermore, the authors find a natural 70-80 year oscillation of temperatures, similar to the 60-70 year oscillation of the natural Pacific Decadal Oscillation [PDO]"

As can easily be ascertained in the "green troll's" last post, warmists will address emotionally charged ideas because they are easy targets, while they will avoid the more settled scientific observations, such as the heat and droughts of the 1930s. They go after emotional openings instead of actually dealing with data.

Here: I'll deal with the data- it's for a very limited area, most of it isn't even within the Arctic circle, and the data only go up to 1980- well before the recent rapid Arctic warming.

If you want to ask if the MWP was global, you have to look at global data, and if you want to say it was warmer that the present, you have to look at data for the present.

Let's look at the data for the present:

Not exactly. Weather is 'caused' by proximate conditions. i.e the arctic vortex. Climate change from AGW just makes specific weather more or less likely. So climate change from AGW 'caused' the CHANCE of the cold snap to increase, not the cold snap itself.

Yeah. AGW enhanced warm fronts are pushing hard into the NP region, one of the AGW reasons for great temperature leaps in the Arctic. The extra energy in the warm fronts are forcing Arctic cold to the south, much more than half a century ago.

Update:
Arctic sea ice extent, 13,511,482 km2(January 28, 2014), again a consecutive day's, & even greater LOSS, Maryland-sized, due to wide spread Arctic warming & sweeping Arctic cold southward. Warm fronts push into the high Arctic, average temperature above the 80th parallel to -18degC., 11degC(20degF) over average. The warm fronts flush much Arctic cold south, MAGADAN, RUSSIA, below the 60th parallel, at -41degC(-42degF) & to the U.S. The sun is 35 diameters below the horizon, as unseen from the NP, but 10 diameters north of its yearly most southern position. Arctic shadow still causes complete darkness, north of the 73rd parallel.

The MWP is noted by studies at different latitudes to be a SHIFT of heat northward. i.e the wamring winds that keep England warmer than any equivalent latitude became stronger or more northerly. That has NO significance to the GLOBAL picture and those SAME studies of the entire Northern Hemisphere show no warming during the MWP because there was no change in the TOTAL heat (i.e surface temperature).
