This bunch of freeloaders wasn't " trapped ", they were just having a good time ( safe ship, plenty of tucker and grog ) at some other poor bastards expense. The best thing to do would have been to maroon them on a passing ice floe and leave them there for a couple of months.

You did not mention and appear to deliberately ignore what the Chinese had done. The Chinese ice breaker Snow Dragon was promtly dispached and went closest to the marooned ship. Its helicopter ferries 52 to the Aussie ship which was pretty chicken to move closer. What day did the Good old Aussie save? The marooned ship hailed "Huge thanks to the Chinese." You "normal Aussie" is just a typical normal Aussie who likes to praise his/her own people and disregard others. It is shameful, mate.

Chinese rescue ship may also become stuck in the ice. No worries, the Aussie ice breaker is standing by to rescue the Chinese ship.

China stole the show.

Australia has the ability to do it.

How could the govt give China such an opportunity?

Is it because the govt wants to make China happy?

Before this, the Sino-Australian relationship was at an all-time low after the govt has made two mistakes:

- Australia supported Japan to condemn China's ADIZ without considering the fact that Japan was the culprit which has already established her ADIZ 44 years ago; and
- Australia supported Mr. Shinzo Abe's visiting Yasukuni Shrine.

That's a good news. The Aussies have a second chance to show off their skills. But they might need to use the Chinese helicopter. As this event concludes, the Chinese will receive the gold medal, the Aussies silver and the French bronze.

Snow Dragon can break 110cm thick ice.
Aurora Australis can break 135cm thick ice.
Go figure!

Still a job well done by the Chinese with the heli!

Well, let's hope everyone is OK and go home. Do not disturb the penguins.
