Very unfortunate incident all around and sad to know this happened in our community. My prayers go out to the officers. I am so relieved they are ok and that they were able to save the life of that unfortunate woman. We have heros among us. I also feel for the family. I hope this is a lesson for ladies young and old alike. Please get help if you are in an abusive relationship before it goes this far. As for the man, I'm sorry to say he got what he deserved. To shoot at police (or anyone for that matter) is unconscionable. If he shot at police, he onviously had a gun ready, so who knows what might've happened to the wife if they hadn't gotten there when they did. Marshfield PD did a fantastic job and I feel much safer knowing they are watching over our community.

Personally I feel that Roy Cole shouldn't be making comments to the Springfield News Leader about a shooting his officers were not involved in. It's the city place if city officers were involved. 2 I feel that the MSHP not Roy Cole should be doing the investigation. I feel an outside agency such as the MSHP should do the investigation on it to rule out any issues that may arise with favoritism or things to that effect. Yes at first Fannen did say something about a weapon being fired towards his officers. But Fannen not Cole should have been the one to correct that statement. Also it's not up to Roy Cole to decide what charges wil be pressed against this person it's the prosecutors. Bottom line is I feel if it's not your department then don't comment on it. But it seems to me Cole is a politician more concerned with getting in the paper or on camera

From what I have read in the news, MSHP is helping in the investigation. I personally think the Springfield News Leader is terrible. There are HIPPA laws and other privacy laws that need to be followed, but Springfield News Leader apparently doesn't care for people's privacy, they just want a story. I have been following the other news outlets and they aren't making a big deal about names not being released like that last article in SNL. It must not uncommon to withhold that information while the investigation is ongoing or they would all be having a fit. From what I understand (and I could be wrong), the city cannot comment since the investigation is not over. Bottom line, though, I feel the officers did a great job.

Jim I agree 100 percent with you espicially about the Springfield News Leader. I Do Not like them at all. It's amazing how the reporters turn in to attorneys quoting law when they don't get the info they want. The officers on scene did a awsome job. But I still feel Roy Cole shouldn't make comments pertaining to other departments cases. It's just not his place. But I agree with you on the Speingfield News Leader 100 percent. I will say this about the News Leader. It's great for starting grills during grill season!

The reason Sheriff Cole spoke about it is because the sheriffs office was asked to investigate it. They in turn requested assistance from the highway patrol.

Names will be released in due time, but not in the newspapers timeframe.

The newspaper needs to learn some respect.

LOL Marshfieldian! I agree about the newspaper. Reporters are the scum of the earth if you ask me....piranas! I thought the same about Sheriff Cole, as well. I'm sure the investigating party is usually the ones to comment. The follow up article even said that Fannen commented on initial reports from the wife, and then Sheriff Cole's investigation found no shots were fired from the man, which would be why he commented on it. I don't know, but I would assume Fannen could get in trouble or at least look bad taking part in an investigation on his own department. I think they are both handing it very well. Still shocked it happened here in Marshfield, but I guess that is the way the world goes now. Glad the good guys are safe.
