The website SSRI Stories ( http://ssristories.com/ ) tracks violence related to psychiatric drugs. The site has links to more than 60 school shooting incidents as well as other violent acts over the past 20 years.

This website is a collection of 4,800+ news stories with the full media article available, mainly criminal in nature, that have appeared in the media (newspapers, TV, scientific journals) or that were part of FDA testimony in either 1991, 2004 or 2006, in which antidepressants are mentioned.

This web site focuses on the Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs), of which Prozac (fluoxetine) was the first. Other SSRIs are Zoloft (sertraline), Paxil (paroxetine)(known in the UK as Seroxat), Celexa (citalopam), Lexapro (escitalopram), and Luvox (fluvoxamine). Other newer antidepressants included in this list are Remeron (mirtazapine), Anafranil (clomipramine) and the SNRIs Effexor (venlafaxine), Cymbalta (duloxetine) and Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) as well as the dopamine reuptake inhibitor antidepressant Wellbutrin (bupropion)(also marketed as Zyban).

Although SSRI Stories only features cases which have appeared in the media, starting March 2012 there will be a Website: http://www.rxisk.org/ which will allow personal stories to appear in a different Website from SSRI Stories. This is the work of Dr. David Healy http://davidhealy.org/welcome-to-data-based-m...

Since last month’s horrifying and heartbreaking school massacre in Newtown, Conn., politicians and the press have, as everyone knows, been totally obsessed with firearms.

Indeed, President Obama has vowed to impose strong new gun-control measures on the nation – very soon, with or without Congress.

Other possible factors – from violent video games to the “failure of our mental-health system” to the unintended consequences of making schools “gun-free zones”– have taken a back seat to guns. Within hours of the gruesome mega-crime, the media had provided extensive, round-the-clock coverage of precisely which firearms, manufacturers and calibers the perpetrator had used, how he had obtained them from his mother, where they were originally purchased, and so on.

But where, I’d like to ask my colleagues in the media, is the reporting about the psychiatric medications the perpetrator – who had been under treatment for mental-health problems – may have been taking? After all, Mark and Louise Tambascio, family friends of the shooter and his mother, were interviewed on CBS’“60 Minutes,” during which Louise Tambascio told correspondent Scott Pelley:“I know he was on medication and everything, but she homeschooled him at home cause he couldn’t deal with the school classes sometimes, so she just homeschooled Adam at home. And that was her life.” And here, Tambascio tells ABC News,“I knew he was on medication, but that’s all I know.”

It has been more than three weeks since the shooting. We know all about the guns he used, but what “medication” may he have used?

It has been more than three weeks since the shooting. We know all about the guns he used, but what “medication” may he have used?(One brief mini-hoax emerged when the New York Daily News published a story claiming the shooter, according to his uncle, had been on the controversial antipsychotic drug Fanapt. That story was quickly withdrawn after the “uncle” turned out to be a fraudster with no relation to the murderer.)

January 5, 2013 - While in the wake to the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre most of the debate has centered around gun control, perhaps more of the debate should be focused on the mood altering drugs that people are being given as more than 60 school shootings among and more than 4,800 violent attacks have been linked to psychiatric drugs.

The website SSRI Stories ( http://ssristories.com/ ) tracks violence related to psychiatric drugs. The site has links to more than 60 school shooting incidents as well as other violent acts over the past 20 years.

Despite 22 international drug regulatory agency warnings on psychiatric drugs causing violent side effects including aggression, mania, violence, psychosis, suicidal and homicidal ideation and 14 recent school shootings committed by those under the influence of, or withdrawal from, psychiatric drugs, there has yet to be a federal investigation into psychiatric drugs causing violence.

While there is much speculation about what is behind the spate of school shootings, all too often one common denominator has surfaced—prescribed psychiatric drugs.

Lawmakers must require an investigation into the role of psychiatric drugs and violence in relation to school shootings and similar acts of violence, given that the supporting data, already exists and, to date, has been ignored by the federal government and the U.S. federal agencies over mental health.

I guess some think she needs to stop trying to help take our guns from us.Maybe some think she needs to go home and be happy she's alive.Maybe she needs to take up the fight against all the drug pushing and trash on tv.

Does anyone realize she has done a flip-flop on her gun stance? When first shot she said she owned guns and would not lobby against them. Now look at the magic of Washington......

do you think imposing ANY public safety measures is anti-gun? And would you not rethink things if you were shot by some dmbfck who could stop on the way to his massacre site to pick up supplies at Walmart?

........ You should look up some of the links to the media reports. Like the one that says Adam tried to buy a gun the day before but was refused. Gee, the current laws do work. Wow, all the guns used were bought legally. There was no assault rifle used, an assault "Style" rifle was used. Looks like one without the automatic features. You cannot prepare against something like this anymore than the Times Square Bomber. He goofed, we were lucky, and someone saw it before it could be fixed. To bad there wasn't a guard there or an armed teacher.

Shoot back or better yet avoid self defense free zones, that's were criminals hang out. Of course you knew that already. I understand your trying to make your line of work safer at 1:00 am but we still have a right to defend ourselves.
