Yet another "possible" gang related shooting in Hollister. When are we going to do something about this? Do we want Hollister to become the next Salinas? I feel bad for all involved. This is a terrible tragedy that obviously could have been avoided. The mixture of alcohol, young people and firearms is a deadly combination.

Why would anyone need a gun at a party? What happened to just having fun and relaxing with friends? I do not know what happened and I do not care. The facts are there is a 21 yr old man dead, another shot (recovering) and countless others that had to witness this happening in our fair city. Everyone in this incident lost and it did not have to happen. Guns, alcohol and young people should not be in the same place, ever.

We need more police, we need more firemen and we need more education for our children in Hollister. This should never happen again.

I was not going to Vote for Measure T, but I am sick of this, we need some protection for our kids. I am voting for Measure T now, I have too, I must. I love this community and I want it to be safe.

Lets save our protectors as they would save us.

Try throwing DIRTY COPS into the mixture.

Robert Barraza is my cousin. I know u say you don't know nor care what happened, but PLEASE take a moment to listen. I think everybody needs to know the facts.

This was a BIRTHDAY party. The news states one of the men that lives in the home (of the people who shot at the "partygoers") is a San Jose Cop. Ok, there's 3 people living in that house. They are well known in their neighborhood. They are ALL THREE COPS. Yes, one wasn't home at the moment, but BOTH men shooting were off duty cops!!! THEY were the ones with alcohol and weapons.

They were not happy that there was a Latino party down the street from them, and they made it very clear by yelling Racial slurrs before opening fire. The shooter was shot AFTER he opened fire. They managed to squeeze off some 30+ rounds before somebody at the party ran inside, and came back out and began shooting back. THAT was when the shooter was hit.

By that time Robert Barraza, age 21 was dead. Shot through the armpit, severing his major arteries. He was shot RUNNING for cover and died in his dads arms.

The next morning police blocked off the streets and escorted the 2 brothers in arms so to speak. The 2 POLICE OFFICERS (the third is in the hospital recovering) someplace else. NOT ARRESTED. just moved someplace else.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I hope as many people as possible see this, and as many people as possible know, that this was a case of DIRTY COPS committing a HATE crime. Not young people and guns mixing. and not gang related activity. It was a BIRTHDAY party.

Remember when a few families could get together and have a birthday party without getting SHOT at? Those were the days...~.~

I guess my point was that I felt it was a totally senseless act. Alcohol and guns, with young men (shooter was listed at 26 yrs old) got someone killed. The reason I said I did not care, was not make to make light of the death at all. I said I did not care, because no matter what happened someone is dead.

Your right, if these people were yelling racial slurs and then that provoked a reaction and then the shooting started, thats a hate crime.

My question is if there were two people from the officers home shooting where did the other three firearms come from? The report was five - six different firearms I believe. I do no condone anyone shooting at all, but I question where the other firearms came into play. Do you have any insight to this? It looked like the home of the suspect was shot from the outside (KSBW news story).

Another question. The San Benito Sheriff Deputies (The Hollister Police is not working on this) said that nobody reported hate crimes or racial slurs (as of news I watch and read 10/17). Do you think these racial slurs need to be reported? I am no expert but it sounds like it would be a big factor. How about reporting to San Jose Police about the off duty officer? If the other guys are officers, how about calling there work?

I talked to a cop in Star bucks and he said there was only one officer living there and he was at work. There other men (shooters) were not law enforcement at all. If they are officers / deputies, where do they work at?

Your right, it would be nice if two families could have a party near each other and there not be a problem. It makes me sad.

My kid is in a spanish / english school. I did this on purpose. I felt it would help her understand other cultures and prepare her to be a better more diverse person overall. I still believe that now.

If we are to get along, our generation is probably going to have the hardest time living it. Maybe hers will outgrow all of this and make the world a better place, so once again two families can have a party near each other and there not be a problem.

Somebody should have dialed the cops early on in this incident. It may have saved a life.

I still think we need to better education, more firemen and more police officers here in Hollister. I went to the gang forum last night and my eyes were opened. I still will vote Yes on Measure T in November.

Thanks for the response Aaron.

May god bless your family and heal them in this time of sorrow.

O.o? Vanessa Barraza... r u related? My grandparents started recieving threatening phone calls recently (on a phone number that is NOT listed, and is NOT given to anybody but close friends and family.
Because of this i'd rather not list names nor too much info on the net.

I think it'd be interesting to see if we're related (were u at the funeral by any chance?)

How's this, i'll give u my email address and if u'd like we could IM, Text or even chat on the phone. Like i say, we're all being very careful as there seems to be sum nasty stuff happening.

regards ^_^

WTF!?!? Who the hell are you and what makes you think it's ok to insult a family who's hurting!?... I'm not stupid enough 2 sit here and pointlessly threaten you much as i'd like to. It'd be Futile, you'll get what's coming to you "Vanessa". Life will feed it to you really quick and it WON'T be pretty. >.<"... God Bless u, i only hope you learn...

People, my uncle has been shot. That's right, only a month after. My uncle was out BBQing with a few family members when a car rolled by, and somebody hung their arm out, and shot up the house. My uncle (Robert's Dad) was hit and he is being hospitalized. This has been a horrific turn to this already tragic story... I'm sure not if the local Law enforcement has anything to say it'll be again telling you they're investigating if there was any gang relation... It's lies. Lies to cover a mess 2 pitiful excuses for officers caused. Off duty, but an officer is still an officer. Local law inforcement's only answer when questioned as to why no arrests have been made, is "they know where he's at"

Yes, they know where the shooter is, they know WHO he is, and they know WHAT he is. A POLICE OFFICER. Please people, know that i'm not just exercising my right to freedom of speech to rant, I want people to know the truth. Robert wasn't a gang member, nor was his dad. We're a proud family who have all learned what hard work was at a young age, and have worked hard for all we have. We're not gang members, We're productive members of society, and we've recieved a horrendous attack by someone who's vowed to "serve and protect". Even worse, these same people are being defended by the law enforcement, an agency developed to "serve and protect" Good Grief what is this world coming to...

Please comment people, and PLEASE think for yourself, I've learned my lesson, what you hear, watch, read, isn't always the "whole truth". It still bothers me...
"The day after Barraza's death, the Hollister Police Department said he had possible ties to the Norte'o street gang -"

That was a slap to our face...
For them to stoop so low as to claim we may have ties to some gang to turn the spotlight away from their screw up...
