I have owned 3 Brittany's over 24 years and new many others. These dogs do not have a mean bone in their bodies, but they are hunting dogs, after saying that, I would say this Mr Gibbons is a danger to society. Anyone that would shoot and kill a dog in a neighborhood setting that was definitely known to him is a sick man. It would be nice to know why he is no longer a police officer.I would be willing to offer a guess! He should thank his lucky stars that it wasn't my Brittany. It seems that the Hampstead police found the obscure law to find an excuse to not arrest one of their own. How about the laws on discharging firearms near dwellings. These are the types of people that own AR15! Just for the record I am a multiple gun owner, avid shooter, hunter and NRA member, These are the nuts that everyone is discussing nationally.Mr Gibbons should have his guns removed from his possession immediately. If anyone would like to discuss this issue with me, please contact me.

I just saw this news clip on the 6 AM news Appalling. Seems to me that the Galliettas are correct The guy is a coward. In my own opinion, he is someone who was looking to make a statement about owning a gun and using it because of all of the recent controversy about guns. Given this, he misused his gun. It has nothing to do with an old law on the books about dogs. The guy wanted the thrill of firing his gun. Killing, and then getting away with it. What happened to knocking on your neighbors door and speaking with them face to face like a real man. The news also showed his rabbit who was in a cage high off the ground I don't believe his self defense of his rabbit rationale for killing Sadie. He's a coward and a liar. If anyone saw his demeanor on the news clip, he clearly has no conscience. Scary.

Mr. Gibbons guns should be confiscated immediately as he obviously doesn't know how to control himself. He is a danger to society.

Steven,This was in NH there is no license for a firearm. This so called man is a bully, coward and a danger to anyone around him.Pitiful excuse for a human being.I am very familiar with this breed of dog and a strong word or even a smack across the nose would have made the dog take off. This idiot uses a high powered rifle.Just a mean spirited individual.Wonder what he does to his wife.BTW I am retired law enforcement.

I use to raise animals including rabbits. I remember the time when the neighbor allowed his dog to run free. I came onto my property and raise hell by running around and barking at the hens and the rabbits. I did everything to make it stop to no avail. My Rabbits where nursing their baby’s at the time and they end up getting so afraid from the dog they ate their young. That is why we need the governing law that will allow people to shot and if necessary kill dogs that do such acts
I also have owned dogs of my own. As a dog owner it is my responsibility to take care of my dog.
So let me say this: If you own a dog of any kind or a pet for that matter and you love that pet, it is you responsibility to Train, feed, keep safe, cage up, pen up, keep in doors etc. It is no the job of your neighbor! Your neighbor took care of his animals and protected them from harm of a dog that is allowed to run loose. What if the dog was a cause of a fatal car or school bus accident killing men woman or children? Then who would we blame… The person driving the car or bus?
Dogs a like children you need to watch over them.

At minimum, this person should be sentenced to a rabbit cage for life.....so sad, and shame on him for such a violent act in a neighborhood, next to conservation area where families regularly walk, and as the immediate neighbor of the family who owns the pet. Dogs get loose, cats get loose, children misbehave, so do adults........ask yourself, does the dogs action going into a neighbors yard warrant shooting a beautiful and loved domestic pet. Children run into the road after a rolling ball.....and this can cause accidnets...but certainly we do not shoot them when they get out of the yard....I thought Hampstead was a close knit community and model town until I read this story; a strong community is what is most neccesary when disasters occur. We need to help and support our neighbors and community. To respect each others differences and live in harmony. Very sad that this has happened.

As a healthcare provider, I believe the viollent response warrant the need for a professional mental health workup, the actions should not be passed off as normal or lawful.
