You're kidding right? The NRA pres was plastered all over my tv saying that very thing. I repeat it was verbatim....the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun! Perhaps you are the one who is uninformed.

My 8 year old grandson was threatened on the bus by an older child who told him he would "kill him" with a bb gun. We told the school - and they did nothing to the child - only verbal - and told my grandson "you can't be killed with a bb gun"..........
basically making an 8 year old feel like he was stupid for being worried about it.
It was not taken seriously, yet my grandson dwelled on the threat for days before actually telling us what was wrong - why he was so apprehensive to get on the bus. Even asked me a few days before the truth came out - "what is a bb gun?".
I finally said after a day or two, "why are you so upset about riding the bus" - he finally told me - so of course i told his mom and she called the school - the way it was dealt with was a verbal scolding and put my grandson on the front of the bus. this happened just in the last month. the boy also told my grandson "i know where you live at" - this impressed upon my grandson so much, that he would go around closing the curtains in the house - before the truth came out - and we called the school.
If you weren't satisfied with the response, did you take it any higher up the administrative ladder? School officials are paid by our taxes and they are there to listen when we have concern about our kids. If they don't listen, we have the right to know why and have the right to be sure someone with more authority is aware of the situation.

A Letter Wasn't Sent Home To One Parent,Why Was That And They Never Called The Parent Was It Because Her Child Was The One That Did The Shooting??? He Never Shoot The Child He Shoot The Camera And It Bounced Off The Camera Then It Hit The Other Child.. Before You'll Tell The Story Make Sure You'll Have The Whole Story Not A Half Story!!!! It Happen Tuesday And The Parent Didn't Know Till Wed Why A Day Late ? Some Questions Need To Be Answered
I'm sorry, but I really couldn't understand your point. Are you defending the child because he was shooting at something on the bus and it bounced off and hit the Jones child. Are you saying the parent of the child involved never received a copy of the letter? If not, then is it possible the investigation was already under way and that parent had already been notified or was about to receive a visit from the Charlottesville PD. Reading the posts here aroused my interest so I decided to do a little more reading on other websites. What's reported here is an absolute waste of website space. The Newsplex has a much more detailed story. It seems the child didn't tell his parents what happened until they heard about the incident from school administrators. They were informed through a voice mail on Wednesday with a request that they contact the school. Clicking on the word "letter" in the story posted here will bring up a copy of Dr. Atkins' letter. The letter is dated the 23rd but according to the letter, administrators became aware of and started action on the 22nd to determine the details. The Newsplex story doesn't tell how they became aware of the incident since the child didn't talk to his parents about being hit until after they had talked to school officials.

For the people who seem to think this is a joke, absolutely it's not. Had the child been hit in the face rather than the back of the head, he could have been seriously hurt. As a parent I would be very upset, particularly by the fact that the kids on the bus said they started yelling there was a gun but the bus driver never pulled over. While investigating the kid with the gun, school administrators need to confirm whether or not the bus driver was aware something was happening and if so, why he didn't stop. If the letter from Dr. Atkins's is accurate, school administrators are taking the incident seriously as they should, having notified the police department on Tuesday night.

Don't take my BB gun away! What will I shoot squirrels off the bird feeder with?
Just make a law or post a "Squirrel Free Zone" sign. That'll keep them away.

I don't know of any that aren't. They all hold more than 10 shots. Why would any kid need more than 10 shots? We should limit capacity of squirt guns too.

Agreed that this is not at ALL about guns. It is about inappropriate behavior at school. There are lots of items that are not appropriate to take to school for many different reasons, the top of the list might be any type of weapon. A paintball gun would be equally inappropriate. Any weapon that could be used to intimidate another person ought not to go to school. And its not about the extent of any intimidation, its that no child should ever be intimidated. He shot this thing on the bus and apparently in ricochet and hit the child. Imagine if it had hit the bus driver, who then lost control of the bus and multiple injuries resulted. Some items need to be left at home. I hope the child has lost the privilege of riding the bus.
