No suspect named yet in slaying of man, 20

Feb 18, 2008 Full story: A liberal dose 30

Investigators spent Sunday interviewing witnesses in the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old Hurst man, but police said it was too soon to name a suspect.

'We're following up a bunch of leads, but we don't have anything to release right now,' Hurst police Sgt. Craig Teague said late Sunday.

Reed Ballard was shot at about 9:15 p.m. Friday in the 500 block of Harrison Lane, which is next to Hurst Junior High School, Teague said. Ballard was sitting in a maroon Chevy with several people when he was shot, he said. It was not known whether Ballard was the target, he said. Read more

How is it to soon to name a suspect. There were witnesses? Someone knows something and isn't speaking. Investigate harder... it's ridiculous when others know more than police

LETS JUST SAY, I KNOW FOR A FACT, REED WASN'T THE TARGET. BUT ITS SAD WHAT PEOPLE WILL DO FOR DRUGS! IM NOT SAYING NO NAMES OR ANYTHING OF THAT SORT. ITS JUST SO TERRIBLE SOMEONE INNOCENT HAD TO DIE FOR A THING SUCH AS DRUGS.

I cant believe that if you know who did this you wouldn't say this was my friend and all of my familys friends, what if it was one of your family you would want someone to say something...that is so wrong.

My son was one of his friends, according to him, Reed got out of his vehicle in a parking lot because he had hit a curb at a 7-11 close by. As he was checking his wheel, three black men approached him and demanded his money, he refused and was shot in the neck. I believe that the three were in a vehicle also. The people with him, drove him to a medical facility, but they were to late.

lets just say the truth will come out...eventually. Everyone in hurst knows him and hurst is pretty much all friends and someone will end up saying something, to someone lets just hope that someone will tell the right person to get justice. And to whoever did this yourself will eat you for doing that.

They will catch them eventually. Reed was a great guy, and he was too nice of a guy for this to happen. We will all miss him dearly, and I hope we find out who did this, and I hope they pay with maximum penalty.

Every Kid at LD Bell High School know who did this , my friend call the police and told him what the kids know and how they are scared for their families lives as REED WAS NOT target, the other kid was. SO ,,, how can they not arrest or at least put out a warrent their arrest.. This is crazy. I really understand how they can not name who did this to Reed. I didn't even know him, neither did my kid at Bell, but my kid knows who did it!!! I pray for Reed and Scotty's family.

Most people would say, a little weed never killed anyone, I do not agree with that. If they were not looking to buy, this never would have happened. You guys be carefull out there, know who you are dealing with.

My prayers go out to Reed's and Scott's family as well as Scott. To everyone who didn't know them, don't believe everything you read in the news, they don't always get there facts right. I can't believe something like this could happen to such great guys. They will always be in my thoughts.

I will always remember Reed Ballard as the kid who played T-Ball with my son, the mid-cities basketball player, and a son with some of the best parents I know. Everyone say a prayer for this family who lost a son, a brother, an uncle and the rest of us who lost a good kid who was well liked by all of our kids. Reed Ballard , You will Be Missed By All Who Crossed your Path and Knew You.

Too many good memories watching those boys run bases with the goat following them. So sad that
his life ended like this. We should all cherish
our time we have with our children.

Obviously that person's son was not a very good friend and didn't have a clue as to what was going on. It's sad that people will just pass rumors on instead of getting the facts. There was not even a black kid involved.
