I am from SF, and knew Selby for years before she moved to Maine. I and her children's father were very close friends growing up, and had children at about the same time. The children consider me their uncle.

It was very tragic when they lost their father, and the children were still coping with that, when this happened. Nothing can compare to it.

They had just returned from a visit with us here in California, and just a week before, I had spent the day with them out here, taking them out to a science observatory in the Oakland hills. They had a great time.

Not only did he kill innocent people - and mutilate them - which is just fucking evil...

He left my niece and nephew orphans. They will never get over this. I think about my niece's friend, whose mother was also killed... too sad for words.

what happens to this man is not my concern, so long as he is permanently removed from society, one way or another.

Letting him stay in jail for life, is no punishment. He will be segregated from the rest of the population ,due to the nature and publicity of the crime(for his protection, if you can imagine)
He will be allowed to age and die on natures time table, unlike the people he murdered.

He admitted the crime, reports say.
Dust off the electric chair,put it on pay per view(broadcast it free to all state inmates,maybe they will get the hint) and give the proceedes to the surviving family memebers.

i agree with you TOTALLY. why should these animals be allowed to live? prisons are a joke and at our expense. america is WAY too lenient on criminals and too soft on crime. i am sick and tired of seeing, hearing how monsters are being defended; do all we can for them AND in the meantime, the victim/s are totally forgotten about; it's like "they're past history but we have to save the monster's life, get him off the hook". i say "screw that idea". "life is not short enough for some people".

Did you know this person prior to the horrific acts that were committed? Do you even realize how something so simple can just break in somebody's psyche and let unknown dysfunctons loose? Chris Nielsen was my good friend throughout high-school and beyond, and though I truly have grief over the devestation that Chris left behind, I cannot say that I have no grief for him. Up until this point, I would be on the side of "fry the bastard"... I can no longer say that in any case, for I now have first-hand experience of what it is like to actually have known and been close with somebody who committed such unbelievable acts of violence. This is not the man that I once knew... Thank God (or whomever/whatever, if anything) that Maine does not kill people who are just as much victims themselves as those whom they have preyed upon. My thoughts and heart are with Christian, his family, his friends, and his victims as well. It's not an easy thing to come to terms with in one's own mind...
