So sad that Vincennes Police couldn't find some other solution to this problem.
Why would a half dozen police officers need to shoot the man so damn many times ?
Come on people...this just has to be wrong..on some level at least.
This is not justice.

He raised a gun at them didn't he? Doesn't make the excessive force right , but it is a reason.

Mike,

Get your story straight. There were not a half dozen police officers. They did try to resolve the issue with tasers and bean bag rounds.

When you point a weapon at a law enforcement officers, you going to get shot.

There were only 3 Police Officers who fired. They did use bean bags and Tazers, he resorted to raising his gun to the Police Officers which sad to say resulted in his death.

they sure fired a lot of shots, i saw the holes in the side of the house on the news and each was circled and i believe the number was 20 something, come on that many shots for one guy who did not fire a shot, with all the so called swat team and sniper type guys someone could have shot him in the shoulder or something i would think, just my opinion, one guy shot and the rest were all amped up and let them fly

EXACTLY....
the man never fired a round at police...just raising a gun does not warrant 3 officers emptying their guns into the man...who did they think he was ?? Jose Wales...just overkill in my book, no matter the number of police doing the shooting.

They could've shot him in the leg, took him down and do it the safest way. But no, these untouchable dicks we call cops take lives and then aren't punished. This man is dead, and people want to defend the cops. F*** that, this situation could've been handled different.

Big men could care less who they hurt.their bullies and a big mess is left behind for people to clean up and try to rebuild their lives.people have the right to defend themselves but domestic violence anywhere is inexcusable but one shot would have solved the situation or should have.time these big bullies start being investigated no matter what their occupation is.they can't keep blaming their actions on other people.

For those of you "Pickle Kissers" that think you could of shot him in the leg or arm or just wounding him would of stopped him, your sadly mistaken.

I'm a vet that's been shot several times and I could still return fire. I'm not defending anyone, but just stating the facts.

You point a gun at me, I'm going to empty my weapon if I have to. They'll be singing hymns over the body the next day.

I ask you this! Was this proper procedure taken action when a man was tasered and bean bagged multiple times then over killed? and if they were close enough to taser couldn't they just over run him with force? But one question I ask is how was the man able to go back in house to go get his gun the first time?? has any one drove buy his house to see how may bullet holes there were? I really don't think a few cops fired one or two bullets but maybe clip..
thank you for reading this was not here to bash anybody or party but just to keep the public awareness.

if hit in the right location of body arm can't lifted or dropped. Location of the body is important any cop or military person knows this and yes some people do alt of things with adrenaline going.

Ok I was going to keep quite on this matter as family could be reading etc. however none of you were there and everyone can sit back and say what shoulda, woulda, coulda but the fact is that law enforcement has the right and expectation to defend themselves. For one who said to rush him and overpower him. That is stupidest thing I've heard. If there is a firearm involved they have take caution. I would also think that if they have to use their guns to subdue someone then they have until that person is no longer a threat to them or others. U all act as if they high fived each other when it was over. Geez ppl! I guarantee these officers play back in their mind how it could b different or if anything else can be done. These men and women who protect our streets have to make decisions at the blink of an eye and have the whole town critique every play by play after the fact but they do what it is necessary at the time. That area is surrounded by homes with young children. What if they waited until he fired a shot and a stray bullet killed a child. Give me a break! Wouldn't matter what they did everyone would complain either way!! How about you post about all the good things they have done for our community!! Sorry my rant is over!

A sheriff's deputy had been called to Darkis home by friends who said he was intoxicated, armed, and angry.

Authorities say they tried talking, tasers and a bean bag gun to disarm Darkis.

"There were many, many options taken to go through different levels of force before the ultimate option was taken," said Vincennes Police Chief Dustin Luking.

That option came when Darkis reportedly raised his handgun toward the officers and they opened fire, killing him.

Did you people even read this. They tried to talk an armed angry drunk down. He raised his gun. How would you react? Let him shoot you?

I had my story straight dude...read sundays newspaper for yourself.
Six officers, 5 Vincennes city police and a sheriff's deputy were involved with the shooting death of Ross Darkis..after a 25 minute standoff with police they resorted to using deadly force of a lone drunk who was having a bad day.
Keep up the good work !

I'm not saying that thet did wrong, I'm saying that it was wrong...It was handled poorley, albeit, im my opinion.
There just to be a dozen different ways that this could have been handled for a better outcome.
This was SUICIDE BY COP and they were willing participants....THE END.
I guess this sort of thing is going to happen every 10 years or so to keep us on our toes and don't question the law.

I was there. I live in Vincennes. The "open fire" was horrifying. Ross was a good friend of mine--the police killed him. 24 shots total--excessive. The local paper did a story today about the poor police. That is what they signed up for. Get a different job. Shameful .

My dad was a cop. I have experience with this. All cops are evil, crooked, way full of themselves, on the take--general a-holes. They will lie for each other. So, justice will not be served by having a state police investigation.

Ross did not aim a gun, he just raised it. Punk ass police were trigger happy. Get trained. I want my friend back YOU NEEDLESSLY KILLED HIM.

I will be selling my home and moving from this hell hole. NEVEF TRUST A COP. This is what happens when you let civilians be police--it should be military.

HISTORY: the police in this town are famous for being f ups. Search the Internet and you will see what I mean.

Really! Military doing the policing?? You better research your history. The military would of dropped him without tasers and bean bags.

Try aiming or raising a firearm towards military personnel. I can assure you, that you would be dead in milliseconds.

Not all law enforcement is corrupt.
