You know, the simple fact is, Investigation Discovery Channel and all the media interest and hype is just that--hype. To use this incident as a stepping stone to 39 seconds of fame on TV is repulsive. The community is NOT still reeling, and I actually see little impact. Let's be honest. These were a bunch of dopers arguing over the price of pills. Nothing more. Because somebody didn't want to pay more money, and somebody else didn't have "enough" to sell, people died. I don't think that's really very newsworthy. The media buzzards feeding off this are in it only for the story. It SOUNDS fascinating. It wasn't. Pills. Money. Dead people. Murphy is right--if this wasn't such a little peaceful community, nobody would've noticed. This is NOT as if a cult came into a private residence during the night and shot a family of 5. Dopers die. If it's not from the dope, it's from violence. That's the life they chose, that's the end product. If somebody wants to put that on TV, it's more about those who want the experience of being "on TV" and "a source" than any "Impact" that has our community unable to get past it. Actually, I never hear anybody say anything about it at all. Until media digs it up on an otherwise quiet news day. That should say something.

The fact that this was going on for the length of time it was and nothing done about it, what was that length of time, oh, about 8 years prior while the local sheriff was DUI'ing is shameful.

The sheriff's office handled it like a true professional's then and today. The sheriff is a bright spot in this county.

Actually they all were not dopers. I went to school with the daughter Melissa knew her for years very well and she did not do drugs, she hated drugs. She hated marijuana and thought it was all just plain stupid. It's a very sad thing that it happened. So don't be accusing them all for being "dopers" cause you obviously do not know. You are an idiot.

Birds of a feather. She may not have done drugs. Did she report them? After a time even if family, enough is enough. If she wasn't using she didn't deserve what she got, but this is a good lesson to report people who do--even family. Sorry she lost her life, but she didn't steer clear of that bunch either. My point is that the newspaper and news media should not hype this--makes it more dramatic to the drama seekers. Ken Murphy has it right. My sympathy for your friend.

I agree, the present sheriff is handling the situation well and is a professional, but the one years prior the incident, nope, have to disagree. My opinion!

Ok say you have a son or mother or father and they fiddle around with drugs. I highly doubt you are going to turn them in lol they weren't junkies by no means. Did they do drugs yes but far from a junkie. Should have have been selling them and getting there daughter/grand daughter in the situation hell no but who would have thought a little town like buena vista would have some crazy basterd roll in and execute a whole family.

Even little ol' Buena Vista can be a killing zone when it comes to drugs. People on drugs and or selling does not matter...good people, bad people. The drugs were the reason for the killings, bottom line. A "strung out" addict killed for more drugs. Not a new or even "shocking" story. It is every where. Drugs are the axis of all evil. So why do idiots even start using them. The young innocent victim, she probably saw what was going on, loved her family any how and got killed for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sick society is what we have.
