I feel bad any time someone dies, especially like this. It's usually not someone who was asking for it, but some other situation.

However, how is it the "city failing the Somali community"? The spokesperson even said himself it's a feud between Somali youths. Shouldn't the Justice Advocacy Center start worrying about those same youths? It's not the city's fault that people don't teach their children or supervise them, no matter if they're Somali, white, black, hispanic, whatever. The Somali Justice Advocacy Center is too worried about defending people that want to wear head scarves and robes around heavy machinery to figure out what to do about these kids. Maybe they're the ones failing the Somali community. They get to condem the city, while they really do nothing.

Isn't that the truth? "City failing the Somali community", at what point do people step up and realize that you can't blame your lack of parenting on the city and the police.

These groups should be ashamed of themselves for even believing in such non-sense!

OK, we are all the bad guys, again. We expect morals and some discipline from all groups that decide to invade America. Now we have Hmong and Somalian gangs running around in our city, armed and dangerous. What a pleasant surprise for our MN Nice folks. Come to the Twin Cities and enjoy our diversity, complete with gang killings etc.
If you can't control your kids, move back to wherever you came from. Seriously, we want safe streets and cities for our families to grow up in. YOU are the problem, not US. Either fix it our go home. Enough. PS, Somalians, either learn to drive or walk, your inability to understand what safe driving is killing us as well.

Yeah, we should have the mayor, city council, and all the rest of decent law-abiding citizens walk the Somali neighborhoods and remind these people that they shouldn't shoot each other. We really love having them here and would really like them to not shoot each other. I'm glad the city is failing them. Maybe they'll put a dent in the Somali population that loves to slash throats and rob innocent students. Thanks Omar for coming here and helping out so much. You've done a world of good sir and we're glad you're here. By the way Omar, why aren't you on the streets out speaking with these punks you're so proud of calling countrymen? Seriously, admit it, you're Osama Bin Laden's brother.

"This is a part of the city completely failing the Somali community," Omar Jamal, director of the St. Paul-based Somali Justice Advocacy Center, said"

Your community is killing each other, how do you blame the city for that? If you spent more time in the community instead of emailing or preaching to the tv cameras, you might be able to end this violence!!

wow. how about some sensitivity here? that was one quote from someone not even related to the murder. how would you like it if one of your family members was shot and killed, and because of your background the papers represented your murder as simply a crime afflicted upon some "other" in society. ya'll need to learn some tact. death is death. life is life. worry about yourself--and treat others with respect.

The Somali community is failing it's self. After being in Mpls last night for an event. I had to deal with a Somali parking lot attendent. Boy what fun. Can't understand a word he was saying. Rude as all get out.Yelling at some other somali buddy. My 6 year old [smartest person in the world] said Dad what place did he come from. His mouth should be washed out with soap. So let them kill each other off. Maybe someday going to Mpls will not be so bad. At least for my kid....

Black on black violence? I am stunned. Crimes like this are so rare it just takes your breath away when it happens.

Yes, we failed the Somali community. We failed to leave you where you were to figure out your own problems. We allowed you to come here and do to OUR community what you have been doing in yours for decades.

When will WE THE PEOPLE figure out that we can not, nor should we, save the entire world. Some just do not want to be saved. They just want a new battle ground

I remember hearing a story from a Somali coworker that a young Somali man reaped a Somali woman, he was then beheaded and the head was left on his families door step. He said "we don't call the police, we handle the problem ourselves" Aint that the truth, and when it gets out of hand, it's someone elses fault. Remember the woman who got raped in teh St. Paul apartment building, where there were 10 witnesses and no one came forward? More of the same I'm afraid. Now not all Somalis are like this, a few came here to make a better life from a war torn country, unfortunatly it seems the war came with.

And I just read a story about how none of the witnesses to the most recent shooting of a Somali man wouldn't speak with police. The Somali community is failing itself.

I would be mad as hell that none of the Somali witnesses at the shooting would cooperate with police. The fact that you are a teacher terrifies me.

""This is a part of the city completely failing the Somali community," Omar Jamal, director of the St. Paul-based Somali Justice Advocacy Center, said in an e-mailed statement. He said the killings were related to an ongoing feud among Somali youths.""

No American and freedom hater Jamal, this is a part of the SOMALI community that is failing itself. Make no mistake about it, it is Somali gangbangers who are killing Somali gangbangers. Omar Jamal is disgusting and should go back to Somalia. What is HE doing to solve HIS Somali problems. Half the time there are so many witnesses byt NO ONE will come forth because of CLAN hating. Talk about pathetic.

And he blames the police, how typical that is all Omar knows to do, blame everybody but himself of his community. How about he call a clan meeting and figure out why Somalians have only been her like what, 15 years, but already their homocide rate is rivaling that of Black males????

Every time he open his mouth there is a glanging din, and it is a wonder that anyone even publishes his comments anymore. Do you expect anything OTHER than blaming the police from Omar????

Here come the rasist comments. You people need to wake up and realize that we are all immigrants in this country. We could do more to help these people. Are system is failing the Somali people as well as other ethnicities. It's a wonderful culture and diversity is the backbone of our great state. We can do more starting with a little compassion and understanding. We need to embrace all cultures with open arms.

So, on the eve of a major religious holiday in the Muslim Somali community, they honor their religion by blowing away one another?

Treat each others with respect is a good idea, but when you start killing each other, you don't blame the city, where it takes place, you have to change the community where it take place. These so called leaders/tv activists will pop up whereever a camera shows up, but do you see them in the community working the trouble spots, no you dont, it's easier to point a finger than extend a hand to help!

This seems to be a common misconception- that all "cultures" are equal. They are most certainly not, and anyone who thinks that is so is either ignorant, naive or both.

The sad part about this whole thing is this is a terrible tragidy for this family, but instead of just recognizing that, Omar Jamal has to open the hole in his face again and blame it on someone else.
Does he expect the community to rally around them when they have no intention of being part of the community?
The Somali community has alienated themselves with their self serving ways and it shows by peoples attitudes twards them

Betty Marsden, I think the old phase we're all immigrants is being a little over used, realizing the fact that when the Indians were the only ones here their standard of living never improved their longevity never improved they just occupied this land as same old same old. When the early immigrants came to this country and through their sweat, ingenuity and
hard work built this country into something great. Now with the new
immigrants coming to this country they know nothing about hard work
only what can this country and the responsible people in it do for
them.
