Woman's homicide sentence suspended

Woman's homicide sentence suspended

There are 19 comments on the www.2theadvocate.com story from Jul 9, 2010, titled Woman's homicide sentence suspended. In it, www.2theadvocate.com reports that:

A state district judge handed down a suspended prison sentence Thursday to a Solitude woman in the shooting death of a former St. Mary Parish sheriff’s deputy in July 2006.

A physician testified at a sentencing hearing that he found evidence that Lea London Williams, 38, had been abused when he examined her after the fatal shooting of Jerry Butler, 45, during a domestic dispute at her former residence in Wakefield.

District Attorney Sam D’Aquilla said he reduced a second-degree murder charge against Williams to negligent homicide after a State Police crime lab report showed some of Williams’ blood was on Butler’s clothing.

Williams pleaded no contest to the reduced charge in March, and 20th Judicial District Judge William G. Carmichael sentenced her Thursday to a suspended three-year prison term and five years of supervised probation.

As conditions of probations, Williams must pay a $1,000 fine and serve 120 days of public service.

Carmichael said he received 187 letters of support on Williams’ behalf, but he said “judges do not take a poll before a sentencing.”

Butler’s sisters asked Carmichael to put Williams in prison, but Carmichael said Butler was intoxicated at the time he was shot and evidence suggests Williams may have been in fear for her life.

Her son got a way with murder, so why shouldn't she? Not surprising really. Nothing wrong with killing someone in WF parish!

He and another teenager were drag racing and hit a very valuable member of our community head-on, in a curve, on a bridge, killing him at 18 years old. He received probation and had to do community service. The other boy didn't get any punishement at all. She had to pay a $175 fine for allowing her son to drive without a license. At the time he was 15 and only had a learner's permit.
If you live her long enough you will see that people are not punished for their crimes. Every criminal should want to live in WFP!

Thank you "Inquiring Minds 2" for your kind statements. This is not to insult you, at all, or to discourage your free speech. I live for the day that my brother may finally Rest In Peace.

I have no comment on the story above or the incidents in January of 2003.

Thank you.

Their day will come in time. We just have to hope that it is sufficient punishment for the crimes that they have committed.

The incidents of January 2003 have not been forgotten....as God's children we forgive.....but we never forget to say a prayer for the family who still miss their brother/son every day.

Unfortunately, some of us cannot forgive or forget. We not cannot forgive the person who committed the crime, we also cannot forgive the judidical system amd those entrusted to do what it right and punish the wrong doers for their crimes.

If you dont want to put your kids in school in this parish than that is your right. But you are ignorant if you think that the things that have happened in this parish are isolated occurances that only happen here.

Some times things happen. Things that maybe nobody saw coming. Sometimes these things are unavoidable. All we can do as citizens/neigbors/parents is try to be a POSITIVE influence on our children and those around us. Some things you just cant control. Thats life. A child could be killed by another in an automobile crash ANYWHERE!

As for the original topic. For anyone that has a problem with the judicial system in this parish should make their opinions heard in a tasteful way. Not on an internet message board filled with gossip and personal agendas.

This is not your police juror Lea Williams. Is that why you reported this??? Lea London Wiliiams is a very nice African American woman who is a hairdresser. Maybe you were trying hard to muddy up Police Juror Lea Reid Williams name.

Who is Ms L London Williams son that you claim murdered someone else?

It's sad to know that my cousins will never be able to see their father again, he can not walk his girls down the aisle nor attend none of his kids graduation. My
Father & his sisters will
Never be able to hug their brother again! His grandkids will only know him by pictures & and the memories that we shared with him! But I for one believe in a higher power!
