Real AKs look identical to that gun that young man was toting. I have a son that likes to play with toy guns still. Although the guns he plays with will never be mistaken for a real one because they are yellow or orange. I simply don't buy the other kind. It's not worth risking his life over someone else thinking he may be pointing a real gun at them. He has a BB gun that looks real and he can use it when he is with us ONLY. He gets pissy and says we should trust him, but that life. I'm just protecting him. We don't live in the same times I grew up in. My son isn't dressing up in any type of questionable attire while playing either, but that's neither here nor there. He is 12. If he can't be taught how to be responsible with a toy gun how will he will never be responsible with a real gun as an adult? The tip should have NEVER been taken off. Parents should have destroyed the gun immediately, the kids thought it was cooler without it. In the end bad choice. Sad situation all around.

<quoted text>Looks like the victim takes the blame again in a cop-military mentality gun happy culture that shoots before it thinks. God forbid somebody does the same thing to the cop's kid! Why do they sell such look alike weapons? Of course any kid would be enthralled by such a look alike toy weapon. Manufactures should have to do things to identify it as a toy other then just some colored muzzle head.
I know of many kids that would not be "enthralled" at all by a toy gun. Why - because parents did the job of parenting and teaching them that toy guns could lead to a dangerous situation.

<quoted text>You mean the orange muzzle head the kids always take off to make their toy look exactly like a real assault rifle, and that is so small you can't see it when it's pointed at you? Yes, the manufacturer should be paying millions for this one. Most of it should go to the poor cop who was forced into this tragic situation.
Poor cop?? You mean the one who is now on a paid vacation? Please..

You talk of the military mentality. Who was carrying the AK-47 looking rifle? That kid watched too many violent shows, thought he was Rambo and paid for his stupid mistake. God bless our police.

The local news reported the kid had gang ties. It would not surprise me, but does anyone know for certain?

This is after the fact.

The cop show shot him didn't know this. Assuming the kid really had gang ties. The cop didn't know this.

The cop shot with NO knowledge of gang ties.

When I was young my dad would buy toy guns for me and my brother.

We had cowboy hats too. Old school style.

We would get together with friends from the neighborhood and play good cowboy bad cowboy.

These were cap guns, we would run around the neighborhood and fire away all day.

Cops never shot at us!

I do all my postings on my phone so I can't really look back or find that thread. But from what I recall Zanoni, you thought I was the masquerading as an African American conservative, and that you hated that. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
