When bicycling, always remember that a vehicle with an engine is more powerful than you. If you get harassed, stay calm. Memorize the vehicle's make, model, license plate number, and other identifying information, then pull off in a safe place and dial 911. I'm speaking from experience.

"Stay off the roads"... oh, right, guy, we all know that in the good Old USA, it's CARS that are legitimate, and bikes are just toys for kids. Right? Wake up and look around, guy. Can you breathe without choking? Do you want to pay for more gas and have your money go to finance Arab terrorists? Where do you think gas comes from, anyway? Why do the Arabs have palaces and you live in a hovel? Because you and people like you think that America without cars is less macho, less free... but the reality is just the opposite. You sit in your car, a prisoner of oil companies, of the road, of the structure of American cities, paying, paying, paying for the rich to get richer while you struggle to survive. Wake up and smell the exhaust, guy.

I agree with everything you posted except the Arab terrorists part. More like global corporations who use "Arab terrorists" as an excuse to have us pay for a military coup with the blood of our children and the future of our children so they can drill it up and sell it back to us at whatever price they want because of the big scare we will run out of fossil fuels, while suppressing any technology that would move us forward. Unfortunately, food (basically the fuel for my 27 speed) is also more expensive because of fuel prices. Lose lose situation.

I always used my middle finger. If they want to run me off of the road in front of a bunch of witnesses that's going to be a huge problem for them. Plus I can take off through yards and between trees, SEE YA!
But your suggestion is better.

No, they need to use the bike lanes. That's what my tax dollars were used for. I'm a cyclist myself, and I know that riding in front of cars is stupid, cause you can't trust any driver to look out for you, and it blocks already congested roads.

I keep golf balls in my pocket to throw at cars which get too close while I'm riding.

Seems to get the point across!

No offense intended, but as an experienced cyclist, you should know that most cities and communities don't have special bicycle lanes, especially in residential sections and older downtown areas. And you should also be aware that you can't make a left turn from a lane located on the far right side of the road.

In all the places I have lived, both large and small, there have been road signs admonishing everyone to "Share the Road". That holds true, legally speaking, for everything ranging from bicycles and motorcycles to compact cars, pickups, vans and semis.

If by "experience" you mean "fiction". I've never seen a pig - in any country - who takes cyclist complaints seriously, even with video. The pigs are as bad as any driver.

Things won't change until oil hits $150-200 per barrel. People won't change their attitudes until they can't afford to drive anymore.

As a motorist, scooterist and pedestrian, I wonder why cyclists in my city do not stop at red lights. On numerous occasions I have almost been knocked off my feet by a cyclist speeding through a red light or across a four-way stop. Are they somehow above the traffic laws?

If cyclists show respect for pedestrians maybe motorists will show more respect for them.

I will share the road--but if there is no bike lane DO NOT ride in a car lane, you CAN NOT go fast as me and you should follow the same rules I do, for stopping at signs and lights! DO NOT run them esp. across my path!! I see A LOT of this!

Seems like a lot of bicyclists want to be both pedestrians and vehicles - and follow whichever set of rules of the road that is most convenient in the situation. The particluarly like to ride across pedestrian crosswalks without looking or stopping. Last time I was in DC I almost got in a collision with a guy on a bike that way. And I was walking!

There are bad drivers, bad cyclists, and bad pedestrians.

Most people shouldn't be let out of their own house, much less be allowed to drive or ride or even walk.

Learn to share the road and follow the rules people.

Title should be "How should vehicles deal with A-hole bicyclists". And that answer is simple. If they're in the road and you're driving a diesel truck, wind it up and roll coal all over them and their sissy little spandex outfits. If you're not driving a diesel truck and they're crowding the road, give em a wake up call by getting them close and personal with your mirror.

Not only do these actions assure that these losers maintain a healthy respect for automobiles, but it's also lots of fun!

As is nailing a-hole drivers with rocks or golf balls; not to mention keying their vehicles in the parking lot.

Back many years ago there was a guy in the town where I lived that took to purse snatching from a bicycle. He would ride up behind a woman, snatch her purse, and take off. No way anybody could catch him. One day he targeted my grandma outside a hardware store, the old fashioned kind that put tools in big baskets out front. He snatched her purse and took off. She grabbed a shovel, gave it a spear toss worthy of any cave man mammoth hunter, and sent it right through his front spokes. She then picked up shovel no. 2, beat the living shit out of him, took her purse back, and then took my hand (I was about 7 years old at the time), and said, "Come on, Johnny. Lets get the hell out of here before the law shows up."

That was the last we ever heard of the bicycle bandit.
