IF you are going to have clubs and they meet all the requirements, no matter how much the wacko holier then thou crowd whines about the speck of saw dust in their brother's eye while ignoring the plank in their, own you have to allow it..

If we are going by Christian values to set societal rules, as a Christian, Divorce is breaking your covenant with God that is worse then almost anything you could do, so I want no children with parents who are divorced in school, they are a bad influence.

Also I believe the Sabbath to be Saturday so no sports and really do we need people in our public schools who can't figure out the correct day to go to church.

And the bible says a woman should be covered head to toe, so we need much stricter dress codes. Also the bible tells us how to treat slaves and you can marry multiple wives. Oh and no people who eat shrimp or pork.

Whose Christian values do we use?

Or we could be REAL Christians and follow the teachings of Christ and love everyone because we are all sinners, and we are all brothers and sisters....

But I doubt many so called Christians who post after me will agree. They are too worried about the saw dust.

I didn't doubt for a minute the P.O. would think the club is acceptable.

It's funny though. The P.O. longs for the day when people were walking through downtown chambersburg, buying, standing around talking, commerce being exchanged, activity just like the 50's and 60's.

Oh how they long for a revival of downtown economic values to return.

But we wouldn't want the values of any other social concern to be what they were in the 50's and 60's.

OH NOOOOO.

How did the majority of Californians vote on Prop 8?
In the vast majority Americans do not support gay and lesbian promotion of their chosen lifestyle. Why should the Waynesboro School System endorse and support an extracurricular club for gay and lesbian children? What does "alliance" mean? That the straight students will be allies with the gays and lesbians to achieve what purpose? To promote the gay/lesbian agenda?

Your view does not count, Matt. It's biased. You have upheld the Secular Progressive banner time and again so it is a sure bet that the PO will express a Leftist Liberal view--don't have to guess. The P.O. should have the same fate as other small newspapers in the state and lay some people off. The publisher and owners are slow to catch on that what you print in editorials does influence circulation.

In the 50s and 60s blacks didn't have rights and women were still second-class citizens, and we had things like McCarthyism. Yea, let's go back to that.

First of all, a person doesn't choose to be gay just like you didn't choose the state you were born in. There is no "gay agenda," other than they just want to be treated equally. "Alliance" means support in times of need and hardship, which is something gay teens are prone to facing way more than straight teens, whether it be conflict with their religion, bullying, conflict at home, and hey, intolerance from people like you who think homosexuality is a choice.

I've read Nancy's post. No where does she state that she believes homosexuality is a choice. Yes, there is an agenda. It's an "in your face" effort to promote their lifestyle choice. It is not live and let live rather it's an aggressive, combative attitude toward fellow citizens.

Have you read the type of information that was put out that was false to lure people to vote 'yes'? This information was put out by christian organizations. Perhaps you bought into some of them. Many that voted yes and spoken since the vote voted based on those lies. If people really looked into the entire campaign for prop 8 they would be (or at least should be) embarrassed. But feel free to drag out the disgraceful antics of the anti-gay crowd and parade them for everyone to see once again.

Look, if you want to make the choice to believe that people make a choice to be gay that is all fine and good. But please don't let your choice interfere with an attempt to make our schools safer. Apparently you think that's a terrible agenda.

We are talking about children who are being harassed at school because of their orientation or their perceived orientation. Why do you have a problem with an attempt by students to try and make school a safer environment? Why is this a bad agenda? Why do you seem to care more about some children then others?

Look at the bright side: If there's a gay and lesbian club they can have a "Gay Pride March" or a "Gay Pride Day" with an assembly and music by the band. The club can promote San Francisco values and ask for a stimulus check from Nancy Pelosi.
So you think children being bullied to the point of not being able to attend school is something to make a joke about?

Shame on you!!!!!!

Interesting....we are being criticized as right-wing on another forum thread. And whose view isn't "biased"? Everyone's entitled to an opinion and almost everyone thinks his/her opinion is the majority one.

In Portland, Oregon, the incumbent mayor, Sam Adams, who had sex with a teenage boy then lied about it and got the boy to lie, is being investigated by the Oregon attorney general. The taxpayers and citizens of Portland want Sam Adams to resign.

Actually it's not over. You should read up on what is happening with Prop 8. YOu need to get prepared....I don't think you are going to be happy with it. Yes, you will be whining again...soon.

One quick point here, the "boy" in question was eighteen, able to legally consent to sex in Oregon.

I care about the welfare of kids. Does it really matter what my orientation is?

This issue isn't about gays vs anti-gays this is an issue about the ability for our schools to provide a safe environment for our kids. If people could for one moment put aside their prejudices and really look into the club and what it has done for other schools then perhaps we could get somewhere. But when small minds look at one word in the name of the club and make judgments and jokes about it based on that single word.....we have a major problem that someone is going to have to face sooner or later.

All sorts of laws are being considered or passed that say they are for the benefit of children and in reality they hurt the children but give the biased the warm fuzzies. It's time this nation grew up a little.

I understand that the Superintendent, principle, school board president and I'm sure many teachers support this and will come out to support it. That's nice but they should all be ashamed of themselves. The shame they should feel shouldn't be because they support this club or even because of their opinions. The shame they should feel is that it is their responsiblity to provide a "safe and friendly enviorment for all students" and they have obviously failed. They've let our standards fall so low over the years that they can't even protect a small group of students from being harrassed. And even more shameful they will be washing their hands of any further responsibility because "now we have a club to deal with this". Just looking at the high schools far from impressive scores shows that something is not right but now they can't even maintain a safe enviorment.

So as we sit here accusing each other of being sinners and bigots, debating choice or genetics nobody is asking why the people who are responsible for our schools let this happen and hold them accountable.

devons, i don't know where you're coming from, but the natural order of things[religion aside] is for any species to multiply. this is done by way of sex between a male of the species and a female of the species. any other way doesn't work. have you ever heard of two gay people giving birth by way of sex with each other???
use your head
this kind of club has no place in our school system
