What's good for the goose is good for the gander
.
Its time to start an 'academy' that cures the 'sin' of heterosexuality

As abhorrent as this "academy" is and irrational their beliefs may be, it's almost equally unnerving that, according to the article, their "claims were not legal under the terms of the Promotion of Equality and Prevention of Unfair Discrimination Act of 2006."

The notion that that the government could hold someone or some group's claim as "illegal" is chilling.

It's one thing to outlaw what someone does. It's quite another to outlaw what someone "claims".

In California, our legislature passed a law that justifiably denies state-licensed therapists from providing to minors so-called "reparative therapy", or "rehabilitation" as it is called in this article, because there is no evidence of its efficacy and ample evidence of its harm.

But the law doesn't make it illegal to advocate or claim that such therapies may provide a benefit. Indeed, adults in California who wish to subject themselves to these unproven methods can still obtain such "therapies" from unlicensed private or religious therapists or counselors, provided that they are informed that there is no scientific evidence to show its effectiveness or utility.

That's one effect of a robust protection of free speech. Fortunately, Americans have such protections in our First Amendment. Apparently South Africans don't enjoy the same degree of protection.

How about a cure for bigotry, prejudice, ignorance and racism? All being learned responses, therefore treatable and reversible.
No .... instead, they want to change a cat into a dog.
