what about fat people and their right to have small stinky noisy demented nude dogs? This is a god given right and that is that. I dont care what you say and that is why I believe in the teabag party and always vote for them and their stuff as they dont know crap either and refuse to learn which is a strategic position but there are plenty of us and we all meet in church. woopee in the vestry no more but planning in the sacristy is on and you are off. Same sex marriage supporters don't like to think about the consequences of their policy, they don't take tomorrow seriously. I ask Quest, what will be the probable affect of same sex marriage on gender segregated institutions, where unrelated adults are held in a communal living environment? We already have too much prison rape, will we get forced same sex marriage?

Marriage is a fundamental right of the individual, as affirmed 14 times by the Supreme Court.

Everyone qualifies for fundamental rights by virtue of being alive, though a fundamental right may be denied or delayed, but only if the government can demonstrate a compelling and legitimate governmental interest for doing so.

Procreation ability, intent, or even desire has never been a requirement, yet gay people do raise children both biologically related or adopted. Denial of equal treatment provides nothing to opposite sex couples, while harming same sex couples needlessly.

Prejudice fails to qualify as a legitimate government interest sufficient for denial of equal treatment as required by the 5th and 14th amendments.

“These matters, involving the most intimate and personal choices a person may make in a lifetime, choices central to personal dignity and autonomy, are central to the liberty protected by the Fourteenth Amendment. At the heart of liberty is the right to define one’s own concept of existence, of meaning, of the universe, and of the mystery of human life.” SCOTUS

Marriage isn't for everyone, you have no right to marriage if you can't find a qualified marriage partner. Any homosexual may marry under current rules; homosexuals have always married under the same laws as everyone else. There is no orientation test for a marriage license.

You may not impose your new standard of gender segregated marriage on everyone to satiate sexual predilection.

Again, being human is all that is required for a fundamental right. While it may be restricted or delayed, the government must demonstrate a compelling and legitimate governmental interest for doing so. Your creative use of pejorative terminology and misrepresentation of the constitution fails to provide any.

Despite the escalation of pejorative terminology, coupled with a denial of relying on such emotionally loaded words and phrases, marriage equality does not impose same sex marriage on anyone. It expands freedom to more people. It does not restrict it. It does not change what marriage is for straight couples.

Segregation and apartheid are restrictions, imposed upon others against their will.

Expanding marriage to allow equal participation under the laws currently in effect, imposes no restrictions. It removes unnecessary, burdensome, and harmful, restrictions.

Again, the 14th amendment only recognized women were not counted as voters. That one mention of treating women differently but only when counting voters, was nullified by the 19th amendment, which gave women the right to vote. The 5th and 14th amendments require equal treatment for all persons. "All persons" specifically includes both men and women. This is gender equality, written in the constitution.

Same sex marriage does not take anything away from marriage. It adds same sex couples to the mix, providing more opportunities for children both biologically related and adopted. Gay people are not infertile.

Irrational fear mongering is still all you have to justify refusing to treat all persons equally as promised in the founding documents and required by the constitution. It would be funny, if it were not also stigmatizing, dehumanizing, insulting, and harmful, contributing to and maintaining a social hostility that continues to cause young people to kill themselves. The prejudice you promote, contributes to needless suffering and death, here and around the world.

It is time to overcome your irrational prejudice, stop spreading harm, and accept reality.
