The law has no merit in old Bisbee or on any federal level good luck trolls. The jokes on us again. Until its changed by state law then you can clam this Bisbee until then your a big fat joke!

I read teh AG's argument and I think he's correct. In addition, as I had said earlier in another post without repeating it all: You can't have this emerging crazy-quilt pattern of jurisdictions of states, counties, cities, townss villages, census-designated places, and other localities, where marriages, and similar things, are legally recognized or not legally recognized depending exactly where you are.

Tis is a STATE power, not a local power.

Yes, it says on a union of a man & a woman will be recognized as a marriage.

Nothing at all about civil unions being banned.

Thank you fa-foxy! I feel as if people in Bisbee make up stuff Law come down from federal to state then to towns. And if the town says its law it can be challenged from the state level then to federal level. It has no leverage and I am a gay I am all for it but it means nothing sorry to say it. Where did theses people come from to think they can even do this this sets up the city for a law suit from the state crazy wouldn't you rather let the supior court take care of it first then follow rules. Or don't the apply to Bisbee I think not because the stuff I have seen and heard is very close to radical then based on facts

WeTheSheeple mmmmm that means it will not be recognized on the state level civil unions are not in there because its not written into the law. So if its not in there it will have to be re written into the law that's why you don't see it. A town can not do this and not be challenged. When you go to the court the laws come down from the state. haven't you every seen a court document that says your name verse the state of az. Not the city

Who ever claimed it had to be recognized on the state level?

It only applies to the benefits the TOWN provides, not state benefits.

What I trying to get at if you and your partner have a civil union in the town of Bisbee and you leave all your stuff to your partner. Lets just say this one of the family members from either side is not happy about it they can take it up to the phoenix and petition it and they will win because its not on the state level and federal level. So if you want to do it right do a trust for you and your partner that way it can not be touched. Its a small step what Bisbee did but holds nothing in the law till its voted on from the whole state. The state could challenge Bisbee and will lose because of it not coming down to federal level.

A "civil union" is a legal fiction not legally recognized by any state, nor the federal government.

And teh courts will decide if Bisbee has teh right to do this. I think they wil say no.

Hey, I believe in synchronicity.

This morning I was surprised to run into Sheriff Paul Babeu down at the post office here in Coolidge. We chatted for awhile and he seems like a nice guy.

A short time later I returned home, turned on tv, and happened to catch Bill Kurtis's documentary on the murder of gay U.S. Army Pfc. Barry Winchell.

And as soon as that ended, "COLD CASE" followed it with the episode about the murder of a gay police officer.

I've always believed in synchronicity, but don't have an explanation for it, so I just accept it.

I wish I knew what it meant. LOL

As long as it doesn't violate Arizona law or their constitution, the city so what they want.

Watermelon Queen isn't recognized by the state or federal govt either, yet she gets certain city benefits including a reserved parking spot.

Is that illegal as well?

I doubt any same-sex couple in Bisbee is stupid enough to think a city recognized civil union would get them any state of federal protections.

A judge will decide. Not you or I.

And I am mystified as to why you are always so willing to quickly settle for third-rate citizenship. George Washington didn't. When he was told there would be blood in teh streets if he didn't settle for it, he laughed and said: "Well, then by God, I'll make it KNEE-DEEP !"
