The liberal justices understand that discrimination does not suddenly end when a minority begins achieving a few of its goals. Justice Kennedy will remember overturning Hardwick: He had nothing good to say about the discrimination confirmed by that decision.

Some of the conservative justices may use our progress as an excuse to allow bigots to continue holding sway. But they were going to rule against us anyway.
