Sweetwater, Tennessee's War On The American Family

There are 28 comments on the www.opednews.com story from Mar 28, 2011, titled Sweetwater, Tennessee's War On The American Family. In it, www.opednews.com reports that:

Our last post might have left readers wondering where the precise definition of the American Family by AFA and Family Research Council can be found. Well, in answer to the AFA's prayers, we've been able to actually locate it: Sweetwater, Tennessee has all the mythical nuclear family needs, right down to its traditional bigotry.

Hours after we posted an OpEdNews article, The American Family: Sacred or Profane?, this bit of insane bigotry was posted by Joe.My.God:

I actually passed through Sweetwater on my way to visit some friends during my spring break, and trust me, everything you've ever heard or feared about the deep south is absolutely true, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Southern drawls and fatass hillbillies are aplenty.

i have been from sweetwater my whole life. i think its the same town as Anywhere, USA. all places have prejudices and small minds, yet are also made up of genuinely nice, spiritual people. is it right to be LGBT? should families made of individuals labeled as such recieve benefits from the government? i don't know the answers to this. i do believe anyone living an alternative lifestyle faces hardships in this world. btw, i have a lovely smile with all my teeth, my butt is not fat, and i am a home-owner.

Well, the answers are very simple.

Yes, it is okay to be LGBT. We don't choose it, and we only wish the same things out of life that you do, for ourselves and our families.

Yes, we should receive equal protection under the law for our families. We certainly pay the taxes for it, and it is not fair that we are currently forced to subsidize YOUR family, to the detriment of our own. It certainly isn't fair to our children.

I'm not sure twhat the last comment is referring to, because being gay GLBT is a natural and God-given trait, and certainly not a lifestyle.

The lifestyle referred to in this article is the married family lifestyle, and it should never be a hardship, regardless of the circumstances in life you are born with.

All of this is easy to understand, if you can accept that we, and our families, and our children, are just as wonderful, just as important, and just as valuable as you are, and your own family is. Whe share the same love for our spouses and children, and are in every way as productive parts of society as you are your family are.

And we are not yet treat that way by our mutual government, through no fault of our own.

Oh Boy! We3 Got a lot of edumacatin' to do! First, Is it right to be Tlgb (I'm transexual and we like to express it this way sometimes) My dear is it right to be lefthanded? Or red headed? Or short, or fat, or tall. Does a Black person "Choose" their color? I like to think you would answer, It isn't right or wrong, it just is! No one "Chose" this condition and all the people I know who have it say they wouldn't wish it on their worst enemy. Imagine, never being comfortable in your own skin. Imagine being jealous of half the population. Imagine thinking suicide will be your only relief. Now imagine thinking this every day for 50+ years. That's what we go through! Then we hit the wall! We no longer care what anyone thinks, we have to start being ourselves! That's when the trouble starts! That's when we "turned" queer! he was so normal before, I just don't know what got into him! It's those "Liberals"!
#2 "Alternate Lifestyle!" You can probably hear my teeth gnashing from here. The words "alternative lifestyle" imply choice. By the time a person starts to live openly as a woman, they've exhausted all their alternatives. They tried everything and nothing worked. It's this or sticking one's head in the oven or popping a handful of seconals or some other sleep inducing drug. I'm sure you didn't mean to antagonise us. You don't seem like that kind of person, but we hear this kind of stuff all the time, and from people who should know better. For a better understanding of this problem, go to Lynnconway.com Scroll down to "Transexual women's successes" There is much high quality info in this site, It is in no way pornographic. Lynn, herself, Is a TS and a professor Emrita from the University of Michigan. Enjoy!

Well, when you consider that the Southern Poverty Law Center has named the AFA and FRC as anti-gay hate groups because they promote lies and slander to oppress LTBG people, it seems Vicki Barnes, the executive director of Tennessee's Sweetwater Housing Authority, is a full supporter of that kind of hateful dishonesty. And her words prove it!

This woman needs to educate herself or resign. It's shameful that an ignorant bigot such as one who would say such incorrect things about the citizens she is supposed to be serving is getting paid out of public tax money, some of which is being paid by the very people who she is villifying!

Emelye, Morris Dees is and ambulance chasing, Oppz excuse me, "Hate group" Chasing lawyer! He's ready to call the local republican club a "Hate Group"! Aside from the fact that he has a whole pushcart full of baggage himself, he is a very poor source for information about who is and who isn't a "Hate Group". He is, like many Jewish people, afraid of his own shadow and he thinks that we are trying to recreate the "Holocaust" here and he, Morris Dees, is going to head it off. In doing so, he creates his own "Hate Group". Fear and paranoia, when mixed with a lot of settlement money, are terrible things.

Mr Dees' personal history is rather moot here and I'm sure he isn;t the only person running that organization. I read the article that talks about anti-gay hate groups, http://www.splcenter.org/get-informed/intelli... and I agree with the SPLC criteria and focus.

The SPLC doe *not* use a group's promotion of a Christian point of view as part of the criteria for naming them a hate group. Instead, they use the manner and extent of the spin, distortions and outright lies against the LTBG community that a group uses to promote its extremist political philosophy.

Those lies include the charges that Ms Barnes wrote about LGBT people and the effects of the nondiscrimination regulations HUD is instituting.
Ms. Barnes goes on to write that recognition of LGBT families would "promote" VIOLENCE, DRUGS, DRUG DEALING, NOT WORKING, and PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY ABUSED CHILDREN.
The comments from Ms Barnes are based in homophobia and animosity. They are untrue. Writing such lies puts her squarely in the camp of hate and the groups that promote it.

<quoted text>Well yeah because the homosexuals want to swoop in and take over your local government and schools and order you and your kids how to live and what to think. Your town has been targeted and it's time to resist!
Considering the treatment you've given them in the past, Can you blame them? Just simmer down and back off a little bit.

I'm sorry to have to be the one to inform you but the Bible is not a scientific work, nor is it infallible and error free.

Same sex attraction is natural in that it is found in nature - as in animals that have same sex attractions and relationships and, as part of God's creation, are thus God-given traits.

The Levites, Paul of Tarsus and the bishops from the early church who translated and edited the Bible didn't know this, so they got it wrong.
