Why? Because it upsets their basic understanding of biology ,assuming they even studied biology and science in school,or their view of the world ,and,of course,their religions. Case in point, some people literally believe in their Scriptures and that the first two humans to walk the earth were an Adam and Eve. Bottom line, their views are based on ignorance,fear,and exacerbated by existential angst.
