How do you change the city that appears with your name?

You cannot change the city and State that is generated by your IP address as per your Internet Service Provider. This would be the blue link under your screen name and may or may not be the city and State you actually reside in. You can create a profile and put your actual city there and it would display immediately below your screen name.

Hi, Trojan. Can you make up a phony location for your profile and have it appear under your name in your avatar?

You have "Home is where the heart is" for your hometown. Just edit your profile and put any locale you like in that location. You can also put anything you like in your Headline, so you could reinforce your desired location there - directly below your avatar.

The geolocation technology is only semi-accurate (depending on your isp) and I have seen it read me as being in my neighboring states before.

There is now a section just for Topix Editors. I found out about it from the Topix editorblog. Stop in and say, "Hey" to Topix Ed and Top Mod4 who are the current editors, get any questions answered, start a discussion, etc.

From the FAQs page:

How do I delete my account?

If you really don't want to be part of the Topix community anymore, simply delete your profile photo, the answers to your profile questions, and your Favorites. Log out, and your account will be deactivated.
If, however, for legal reasons, you need us to delete someone's Topix profile (e.g. the person is under 13), contact us. Note that there is no way to reactivate a deleted account. Please do not ask us to delete your Topix profile unless you're really, really sure it needs to be deleted.

Topix is so weird sometimes. I copied the above info from their very own FAQs page but when I tried to post it I was stopped because it supposedly contained profanity.

I took the hyphen out of the word "deactivated" (which was how they had it) and it posted.

Methinks Topix needs some smarter filters.

They don't call it ARTIFICIAL Intelligence for nothing! Hey, hire some HUMANS and offer a bounty for trolls.
You think you had trouble posting? I couldn't post a link to a topic on a Mid-west message board provided by an *ISP* because Otto the Auto-Mod thinks it's spam or something. Folks are trying to develop a free market/exchange event there! So much for trying to do anything for the public good on here...

How can I change my username? I got my full name in it and didn't realise it will post that way.

At this point I don't believe there is a way to change your username. You should try contacting Topix, their phone numbers and contact info may be found here:

http://www.topix.com/topix/contact

Here is the feedback form with "Topix Profiles question" in the drop down menu:

http://www.topix.com/ext/feedback...

You might also try emailing: help at topix dot com

They may even have you delete your username and start again. Hope it works out okay for you.

OK, call me dense, but..
I also have an old account but don't want that username. I can't seem to delete the favorites listed. is there some trick?
Also, i tried to make a new account with a new username but same email, and was not able to do that either.
Thanks for your help.

I can answer the question about favorites - click on the trashcan to the right of each your favorites. Wait for the page to reload and it will be gone. Then you can do the next one.

I'm unsure if you will be able to start a new account with the same email address once your old account is deleted.

I used the feedback link to ask them to change my username. Just give them a few to choose from so they can find one that is available. They responded within a day or so.

Then you can just delete the favorites.
