Let's face it: Multiple Posting Disorder affects A LOT of people. Or, is it effects? You may have MPD yourself or know someone who does. Perhaps some or all of the voices in your head are afflicted with MPD. It's a horrible, devasting disease that is rife throughout Topix and may possibly ruin the whole Topix experience for the dozens of people on the threads who aren't suffering from MPD but rather, for it. Drug-testing might help but, will it cure? Can anything be done?

Thoughts?

Great idea for a thread, Ferrerman.
You and I know a few people who score in the 'severe' range for MPD. We won't mention any names, but they know who they are. They rate in the upper percentiles for every symptom associated with this disorder:

The inability to stay away from Topix for more than a few minutes during the day.

The compulsion to make dozens of socks for trolling, most of which they're compelled to score points/props with every single day. The game has not been kind to these folks.

The belief that Topix is the 'real world'.

A desperate need to draw attention to themselves by way of instigating behavior (overt as well as passive in nature) and/or telling lies about their life in order to elicit an emotional response, all because they're so desperate for attention.

And finally, when the rage and pressure eventually become too much...

The splitting of their personality into yet another persona. Unable to rationalize the difference between one of their characters (created to allow them the kind of life they wish they had in the real world) and their real self, they wander aimlessly around Topix baiting strangers, no longer caring about the quality of interaction....just doing whatever it takes to score a hit.

Thorazine would probably be their best bet.

Given the negative icons that appeared so quickly (like magic!!!), I'd say you're right!

Have you ever seen Intervention? The worst cases are the ones who act out the most when confronted.

What about those of us who never troll anyone but have multiple sockpuppets just because we like sockpuppets?

Ask yourself, "why?". Then, take one sock out in the backyard and bury it. DON'T WORRY- that's not murder. They're not real people. Say a few words, then go back in and try to be whoever you are. Good luck!

Maybe a solution would be to put all the socks in the dryer?

Have you seen the way hoarders break down when people are brought in to clear their homes? Expect multiple freak-outs. Hell, the worst cases can't let their socks go a day without posting at least once.
