We've been rescuing animals for
20+ yrs. Mostly dogs and horses
but over the yrs I've had baby

deer, and an assortment of farm
animals.
I want to open a pitt bull rescue
and rehab facility. A place to nurse
these animals back to health and adopt
them to a forever family.
The county does not want to sanction
a facility for that breed.
I think they are short sighted b/c they
agree about the need for such a facility.
The neighbors, who don't even live w/i
a mile of me, don't want it here either.
Did you find out what their concerns about allowing that type of facility at your location and if they would allow a facility at another location?

Finding out what specifically they are concerned about and address those concerns may help you get closer to a compromise with them.

It took 5 years to start a "no kill animal shelter" in the county I live in. Over that time I and the other board members were ready to throw in the towel. That was without having the stigma attached to it.

Pitt Bulls tend to be a misunderstood breed.

I think every state is a little different on the migaratory bird but raptors no way here in Tn . I have some older friends that have ducks , geese and turkeys but I think they bought the sggs and hatched them from the start . That would make them tame but would have to clip their wings as they could fly away but I am sure no wild ones but wild geese and ducks do stay here close to our area year round also . Geese being the Canada goose large version and they can wreck havock on a gold course . Done had 1 golf course manager get in trouble for shooting some .

It's all about the breed.
Always the breed.

They are the most misunderstood breed of dog.
It's amazing how ignorant/abusive owners can
destroy and entire breed.

Any raptor (bird of prey) is illegal.
I had a baby screech owl, that fell out of
his nest, for 3 weeks b/f wildlife and game
came and told me that it was illegal to have
even a feather from a raptor.
However, here in WV, we have a place called
Three Rivers Raptor Rehab Center and they
came and got this little owl, took him to their
facility and brought him back a month later
and released him exactly where he was found.
They taught him to fly and hunt (which I never
could have)
The baby deer were a different story. I called
everywhere and was told by the Department of
Natural Resources that I was supposed to take
it out in the woods and leave it in hopes that
the mother would find it. Riiiight...

I applaud you for what you want to do. I see so much ignorance
Towards animals on Facebook that it makes me sick. I rescue and do transports and constantly preach spay and neuter, but its like fighting a losing battle sometimes. Good luck :-).

Thank you.
I keep telling ppl that even if you can't
own a dog there are so many important jobs
that they could do.
Like volunteering to do transports.
Our shelter finally b/c a no kill shelter
and now they need ppl like you to transport
dogs out of state for adoptions.
Ppl like you save the life of so many great animals.

Even my little dog gets mad at me an tries to bite when playing .

Since yall said birds i think all normal birds can't be kept here . We have an Eagle nursing place at Reelfoot Lake n think its a Raptor rehab center there . Lots of Bald Eagles winter around this area I am located . Baby deer they say if you see the mom dead to call the wildlife service an wait for them as we have a few that do take them in but they don't release them back to the wild . Seems zoos get them as human contact isn't good for them . It's a lot of different wildlife laws from state to state also and different laws for hunters as well .

I constantly share litters of puppies
For transport and to foster, but rescuers are an optimistic brand of people. My dog was from a rescue group down in Florida.:-) I know a pilot who helps in the pilots for paws program to get dogs up north for a better chance at adoption.
