Wondering if the Maurice River Township Committee is still practicing the "good ol boy" syndrone? I remember many years ago when I lived there, Ann Tomlin, was the head of the Democratic Party, which ran the township just as she said. I have heard through the grapevine that the same thing is going on, just a new cast of characters.

Yes the mayor is republician however the good old boys still run the township. Two of the committee men are dems even though one claims to be GOP. They totally ignore Pinelands as if it does not exist so the governor should take the monies going into them and cut the budget by a few million. Pinelands can doing nothing. The zoning officer has friends and ignores rules for them as we will prove shortly by hundreds of OPRA documents. It has been a trend for 18 plus years with one favorite son. Three former mayors did a great cover up. the CEO of Whibo made a call to Winchester/Western railroad and asked the legal department for a "favor" to allow more illegal work to be done on property and I am sure EPA/DEP has never made an inspection on the junk yard at 316 Port Cumbeland Rd. Cannot image what has seeped into the ground and in pinelands w/o permits. Imagine that. Deputy mayor said it is OK. Corruption runs deep and wide in MR twp. We have thousands of dollars in salaries for jobs not being done. A former lawyer for the twp--Duffy said in a legal document in 2008 "I don't look kindly on zoning violations" however he meant on trucking business and he had full knowledge of the illegal businesses going on but did nothing as has the land use board which is a joke. The chairman has been there 23 years and they had a new member and when they questioned the way things was done--he said "you have to do it our way" no questions.

So......that makes a differen.......i seriously doubt it. There really is not that much difference in the parties now.....the difference is in the person.

I agree with that. Used to be the GOP had morals and ethics but it is all about power and money. I would not vote for a dem unless they were a true conservative--they are hard to find.
I am just starting with this blog and I want it to go out to NJ.
We have a fire department (volunteer) in the twp and they just took a government grant with matching funds for $600,000 to add a second story to the fire hall with a game room, showers, kitchen etc. and most of them live within a couple of miles.
Some of us tried to discourage it because there is a nice twp hall right next door. We have a very high tax rate in the twp and have nothing for it.

Did I understand correctly? The total cost for the upstairs to the volunteer fire department is going to cost 1.2 million? No wonder the Township has some of the highest taxes in the State. In my wildest dreams, I cannot conceive of a second story costing anywher near that amount. Wonder if they have picked a cronie to build this? Shouldn't something of this magnitude be let out for bid? Maybe some background checks are in order, not only of the Committee perons, but the attorneys who are representing them.

The total cost is around 600,000. 300,000 from the fire commissioners and then the grant but that was almost two years ago so we don't have any idea what that cost will be and now they have to add an elevator. a lot of things need to be investigated in the township and we are working on it. very little information has been shared with residents. we have a local diner now that wants a liquor license so it will be voted on in Nov. but here is thekicker--we have about 3000 residents who can vote but because we house two state prisons they include the 3500 inmates so that would up our twp to 3 permits. We get very little per inmate and it cost us thousands to house them

I am hoping to get input from all over the state of NJ due to the fact we have pinelands all over the place and if they do not or can not enforce their own rules and depend on township officials to do so then why do we even have them? They have a lot of employees with big salaries and benefits and they have done absolutely nothing with regards to the arrogance of the twp of Maurice River. The governor needs to take a good look at this on his budget. We could do without a zoning officer in the twp as little to nothing is done with the illegal activity that is taking place. We could use one from another township and share cost. He also rides around in a tax paid OEM vehicle and no one really accounts for his gas and he has a tax paid cell phone and has made hundreds of calls to his racing buddies and the twp refuses to do anything after being told. The twp refused to track the calls so I made calls to the numbers.

Do you have a list of salaries received by these employees? I use that term loosely. Also, do you have a yearly income and expense for the Township?
