LAST NIGHT I had requested that topix remove this postings becuase it sounds like a troll the topic is on real are artifical trees and this person comes on making sexual comments.. I went through the normal way with hitting flag abuse and then sending through the comments section.. but has not been removed. |

moody12883,
First, I noticed on the weekend that Topix moderators don't move too fast. Also, when you sent the feedback about it, did you include the a link to the specific post? Right click the post number (in gray) and select "Copy Shortcut" then past the link into the feedback form with a comment such as "inappropriate post for forum topic." I have found that works the best. But as I said before, they are not too fast on the weekends. |

This is why I advocate that editors should be allowed limited moderator permissions and be able to delete posts which are clearly in violation of the TOS. |

Hi guys, We may eventually move in the direction of giving limited moderation powers to editors. Topix believes in erring on the side of open communication as much as possible, and while this particular post, "I like the look of artificial boobs but real feel better." was somewhat off-topic on the thread about real vs. fake Christmas trees, it seems clear that it was an attempt, albeit feeble, at humor. The difficulty in granting moderation privileges to editors is that everyone has a different threshold of what they find acceptable. Finding the balance between free expression and interpreting the Topix Terms of Service with regard to comments is not always very straightforward. We will move towards user moderators eventually, but these are the sort of things that need to be reconciled before we do so. Admin @ Topix |

Just as a suggestion. I am not sure if you record who clicked on the "report abuse" link, though I do know you ask for email addresses on the feedback form. My suggestion is why not use what a person reports as a barometer of their ability to evaluate posts and whether or not they are impartial. Just a thought. |

i get the feeling that "They" already do that,....that being said, The TOS rules in what is allowed,....maybe i'm just lucky, cause i get pretty swift results when i offer feedback,...... LOL... |
Let's start with COMMON SENSE. If you don't want to see it on a billboard above the city limit sign, it probably doesn't need to be on a TOWN's forum. The Heartland isn't Hollywood. Troll droppings are pretty self-evident. Nothing hard about that. That should also give you a good idea of what folks are getting tired of seeing. With the above in mind and the ever-INCREASING number of "bad" posts (including almost entire forums), what is the current status of these options? Possibly, a "town marshal", separate of Editor concerns, would be a way to go. Let them field the reported posts and drop them into a queue for Administrative review. The idea is to get this stuff off the WWW in a TIMELY manner. You all want to return them, go for it. "Qualify" the appointees rather than just take anyone who volunteers, maybe as suggested by TH. Familiarity with the actual town, sense of responsibility and maturity might count for something. ACCOUNTABILITY - they will initially need to check their forum(s) fairly often if a major "clean-up" is needed. If their "to look at" list gets too big, check if they've been doing their job. In some areas, "neighboring" forums might can back each other up as we do for real. DEPTH - some forums may require more than one "watch dog". GET THEM. EVERYONE involved should benefit in the long run. |

Goodness gracious! Help us all if the kind of person which is offended by the above comment, spending days trying to get it deleted, is going to be a TOPIX moderating editor or lend their sensibilities as a standard barometer of free speech/expression acceptability. When these "KGB officers" become a TOPIX reality, I for one will find a new discussion forum. |

Yes. There's some whacky stuff on these forums. BUT, that's what makes it interesting and the reason people log on.

If I was the mayor I would see about pulling the plug. That is getting serious.
