Stalin did not want a bunch of War Veterans who knew all about freedom coming back to Poland as he was afraid they would lead a revolt. And later communist regime kept a very clise eye on those who did return to make sure they did not cause any trouble.I can't believe that polish war heroes, like you're grandfather, were never allowed to go back to their home, that's really really sad, at least most of them got to start new lives in usa and UK, there are lots of polish world war two decendants in Britain, and I know many settled in America and made a good life for themselves, but its sad that it wasn't untill recently that they have been appreciated by Poland for what they did
And of course the communist government never mention their efforts during the War. Praising the communist only.
After the end of the communist regime their story was then told to the Polish People.
