Wow, Nancy cool ants!. I wish they were in my backyard but mining emeralds, tanzanite and diamonds. Garnets are nice, too---just saying, if I could pick the magic ants they'd bring me those stones. Robert, I hope she likes it!

ALC, isn't that neat?! I wonder if any other stones have interesting tidbits like that.

My husband and I went on vacation once for a week in Washington state. We made a stop at Ruby Beach, not knowing that they actually have garnet rough that can be found on the sand there. I found that out a day later while reading a travel book we'd brought.

We 'mined' rough in Cherokee, NC at a place where you can buy buckets of rough. We got two buckets, one for my husband, one for me, to 'work.' Guess who came out of it with a handful of colorful gravel and who had chunks of rubies, sapphires, emeralds, topaz... Yeah. The husband. NOT FAIR!:-)

The rubies, sapphires and emeralds were opaque of course, but still, it was neat to see them. One of the topaz was clean and large enough to have faceted by someone working there. Of course it was expensive vs. the price I could have bought a 9 x 13mm pear shaped natural white topaz at JTV.

Welcome, Desiree. How long have you been shopping at JTV? If you're new, don't miss out on using coupon codes when you order. Wish I'd known about them when I first started shopping!

Are you into jewelry or gemstones/jewelrymaking or both?

Hi everyone, I'm posting from a laptop in a differnt city. I got the peridot ting and it is drop dead beautiful. My eye doctor loves gemstones and he was awestuck by it. I will post and go read the recent posts here.

Hey, Donna! what was the item number on that one again? I love their peridots, they're always such a good, saturated green.

I've been shopping with JTV for almost a year & randomly found this site by googling the item number I've been wanting & no didn't know about coupon codes. I've brought 1 mixed parcel, one garnate parcel, diamond earrings, one diamond pendant, two diamond rings, Alexandrite, and rutilized (spelling?) Quartz. Wow listing it all seems like a lot! Right now I'm eyeing GSK but am afraid of getting a bad egg. I'd have to say diamonds are my favorite and I love sapphires I actually didn't know there was so many until I found jtv.

Yes! Donna is still here. Glad you liked the peridot ring. I bought a trillion ring last year and it's beautiful. I need a pendant to go with it.

Welcome, Desiree. I own the GSK ring and I love mine. It's large and sparkly. Definitely use a coupon if you buy it. I think DISCMTY021 and DISCMTY022 still work. Each one is 20% off one item.

Nancy how neat to sort through rough. I would like to go to this place where you actually dig up diamonds. I think it's in Arkansas. I saw the place on TV a couple times. One guy got a 3 carat rough diamond from there.

I meant to comment on the cruise ship gems you mentioned the other day...I bought a couple way back in 2000 or so. They were selling them for $10 a carat and I bought a big amethyst cushion cut. At the time I didn't know how really dark amethyhst could be. This one is pretty light in color, so now I know. The last cruise I went on was Carnival Triumph and they started offering guarantees that you could find better prices on the ship stores than the port stores for the same things. I have to say they were pretty competitive, but I still didn't buy on board. I bought in my favorite port St. Thomas! where have you been on cruises?

Is there any bad side the jtv preferred account card? I know I could pay it off before 6 months and only want to use it for my gsk ring. & can I just cancel it?

Hi, Desiree. I have had the preferred card for almost a year. You just have to make sure to check the "JTV Preferred" box at online checkout and underneath that there is another box for "6 months no payments" that must also be checked. If you do check them both during the checkout, you will get the 6 months. Always double check the statements when you get them to make sure you got the 6 month promotion. It's a great way to budget a larger purchase. I would still apply by phone by calling the JTV main number. They give you 10% off and free shipping on the first purchase. If you want to get 20% off the GSK, you might want to make your first purchase something less expensive to try out the process. Just a thought.

ALC, I've seen that place in Arkansas on TV, I think on the Travel Channel. That would be neat, to dig for diamonds. My husband and I also panned for gold in Alaska, an excursion thing offered by the cruise ship. We only found a couple flakes and it's not like you're working a stream or anything, but it was still exciting to see the gold flecks show up under the dirt in your pan.

That's what they were selling for on the cruises we went on, too,$10 a carat. I got a London Blue 9 x 7 and an amethyst, an 8 x 10.

No way! We've been on the Triumph, too!!! We've done eighteen Caribbean cruises and two Alaska. The second Alaska one we did with friends of ours. She enjoys the casino a lot. On the last day of the cruise my husband and I were up on deck looking at the glaciers in College Fjord and they were nowhere to be found. We called down to their room and she said "I have to go to the casino to pick up my winnings, want to come along?"

Now, she's got a good sense of humor like I do, and we went to their cabin fully expecting this to be a joke. She met us at the door with a smirk on her face and she and her (what DO you call 'boyfriends' whom you've lived for over a decade as husband and wife, when they're in their mid-60's?) had us follow them. Down the elevator, down the hallway, to the casino.

I said "Taking this joke a bit far, aren't you?" She turned and smiled sweetly at me and continued on to the cashier's window and handed him a slip of paper. We watched as the guy peeled off $10,000 worth of $100 bills and wrap them up neatly and hand them to her.

She'd hit a jackpot, a BIG jackpot! We'd all made reservations to have dinner in the alternative dining restaurant that night the day we came onboard, anyway, hoping to at least celebrate a nice cruise together. She insisted on treating the four of us to dinner, and I'm talking starting with a high-end caviar service, all the way through whatever drinks we wanted.

It was - and all four of us still agree - THE most fabulous dinner we've EVER had, bar none, hands down. The four of us are sitting at a table with a view of the College Fjord in late afternoon. The service was impeccable. The food, totally amazing. I remember the lobster bisque, they laid huge chunks of lobster in your soup bowl and then poured the hot bisque over it. Huge king crab legs split up the side for easy eating. Oh, and stone crab, we had that, too. Oh, it was wonderful.

Ahem. Where was I? I kind of drifted, didn't I?:-)

Let's see. Been to the Bahamas (we refer to it as the Atlanta of the Caribbean, no matter where you go, you HAVE to go through Nassau at some point!) St. Martin, St. John, St. Thomas, St. Croix, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, Barbados, Tortola, Belize, Cozumel and Progreso. Key West and the ports in Alaska of Haines, Juneau, Ketchikan, Skagway and Sitka. Victoria in British Columbia. I think that's all of them. We've gone out of Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Pt. Canaveral and Tampa. With Tampa you get to go under the Sunshine Skyway bridge. THAT is an experience! The top of the ship cleared the bottom of the bridge by meters!

Desiree, for purchasing and taking advantage of discount codes, you put in your cart whatever you'd like to buy and 'view cart.' Down at the bottom is a box to enter coupon codes. Type in, or cut and paste, a code. For free shipping use DISCFREESH. Hit 'apply' and it will apply it to your order by reducing the cost of the item by $6.99 (shipping.)

You can enter another code for a discount on the item's price, 10% up to 25%(though those are RARE.) You'll find current codes on CouponShare.com , MyJaco.com ...there are numerous coupon code sites. You can find them by doing a general search for "JTV coupon code" or "JTV discount code." Also, sign up for all the newsletters they have available to sign up for, whether you're into jewelry making or watches or whatever. I haven't found a code that only works for certain items. As in, a watch code will work for buying jewelry or gemstones.

Oh, and you may receive e-mails from JTV with coupon codes on them, or stuff in snail mail. Feel free to share with your JTV co-purchasers and post the codes online, it's very much appreciated. We have good-hearted contests to see who can post new codes first!

One current code is PAYPAL20 for 20% off, and you don't have to use Paypal for it to work. Oh, and you can use codes multiple times by signing in as 'guest' rather than logging on under your registration. I use my work e-mail when I sign on as 'guest.'

If you're looking for real bargains, do a search on JTV's site for preowned. You can use coupon codes on those, too. They're unpredictable as to when they put items on. They can go for days with the same old stuff on there and suddenly they'll throw 300 items on there. Usually just before you go to bed for the night, like happened to me!

Sometimes the preowned aren't 'complete.' I ordered a set of interchangeable pearl earrings. It originally had six sets, I received five. But they were upfront about what was in the set. I have a 50-gemstone holder tray on its way to me for $5.60 including shipping that, if it's in good condition, originally sold on JTV's site for $29.99. I have dozens of stones I'd love to corral into one box.

Hope this is of help. Happy hunting, and welcome to Topix!

Desiree, I first discovered JTV after coming home from a cruise and drooling over the tanzanite onboard. The first tanzanite I ever saw in real life was on the finger of our receptionist at work around 1990. It was an emerald cut, probably a 10 x 8, and she showed me how if you looked through the stone's sides it would show either reddish coloring or bluish, being a violet when you looked at the top of the stone.(Violet is my favorite color.)

Cheryl Ells was showing tanzanite stones on JTV, and I flipped! I started watching the gemstone shows regularly, learning from her and the other hosts about gemstones. I watch some of the jewelry shows, but I like colored gemstones vs. diamonds, just a personal preference.

It's not 'weird' to shop JTV. If you compare their merchandise with what is out there in the retail world, the prices tend to be lower. You DO have to be careful with comparing apples to apples, 10 karat gold isn't as valuable as 14 karat, or if the stones aren't as good a quality in comparison, the value isn't there. I enjoy being able to look at jewelry or gemstones as long as I like, without a salesperson hounding me to make a decision. I like the 30-day return policy.

JNT011 is lovely! I hope it will look as good on your finger as it does in the online photo!
