<quoted text>Hi Barbi! Thanks! It's gonna be HOT birthday, that's for sure. It's already 94 degrees here in Concord. They're saying it could hit in excess of 112 today. That's pretty toasty
I appreciate the birthday wishes. Hope you and the puppy stay cool. I don't come around Topix much anymore, but I read it sometimes.

Randy! Long, long time no see...

C'mon, big guy. Post with us. I know the ladies sure miss you!
How are you managing with the BART strike??? I mean, your commute?

*For fellow diners - BART is our Bay Area Rapid Transit system - trains that run under the SF Bay to get people into the city and they're on strike, effecting 400,000 daily commuters*

Hope you had a great birthday, Randy. We all do!

It's Bad You Know (RL Burnside)

A little trivia here, anyone remember this song
being used on the Sopranos?

Love the retro b&W used in making this video...

lol...OK. I thought it was some new southern chicken dish.
By the way, a friend of mine who is a very good cook told me how to make the best chicken...soak chicken overnight in buttermilk, coat in flour, brown, then cook in a Dutch oven, in the oven.
It tasted good, but all the coating fell off. I often wonder what I did wrong.
So I just fry chicken. I do that well, if I say so myself.

I wanted to let you know that I thought buying your granddaughter seven new "pretty" dresses was the sweetest thing I've heard in a long, long time. What a great grandpa (do they call you that?) you are!!
My grandfather terrified me.

Yes, they call me grandpa. Well, I'm not sure what a three year thinks is a pretty dress, so I bought seven. I bet grandpa is going to be right at least a couple of times. LOL

Is that like even a broken clock is right twice a day? She'll love all of them. Little girls love to dress up. We've always been Papa and Nama, but over the years it's been shortened to Pop and Nam.

They can shorten my name to Gra and it would be okay with me. They are awesome.
I know what you mean. Kristen is my oldest grandchild at 24 and she started the Papa and Nama names. LOL--all the kids friends call us Papa and Nama even if we're not related. I'm getting excited about having someone come out on Friday and clean my carpets. Little things make me happy these days. I'm getting used to the empty nest and find it so very relaxing to come home after working all day to a clean house and extreme quiet. We rarely turn the TV on. I listen to youtube for a while and enjoy it so much (specially since I no longer have to deal with the ads). My husband is my best friend and we're so comfortable with each other. It's our time now.

That's sounds like you and Tony are in a great place. That is always a good place to be. My oldest granddaughter is 5, so I'm still getting used to the whole thing. I'm looking forward to the learning curve though.
It looks like they will be my only grandkids. I intend to enjoy them fully.
The quiet is great, however, there can be too much of it. Being this far from home is sometimes too much quiet.
I think so. We've had the oldest granddaugher and the little one with us for years. I'm glad we could do it, but its time for us to have some time to ourselves before and after I can retire. Time for an empty nest and we sure do enjoy it. Miss the little guy, but he's only 4 miles away so we can see him whenever.

Awwww! How sweet, and how nice of them to take the time to show how much they appreciate you.
Lucky little girls to have a grandpa like you, Rickster.
