I've looked and looked, and there appears to be now way to search forums at all, much less search them without searching news and blogs.

It would be swell if someone would just tell me I'm blind and it is the blang-bloop button that is always there, but I have to ask anyway.

thanks,

If you look at the top of the page, above where it says " TOPIX.NET " in bold, you will see, written in blue, several options ... NEWS FRONT PAGE, FORUMS, BLOGS, etc.
Click on the FORUMS.
THis gives you a screen that shows numerous listings of "Recently updated forums" from all over TOPIX. IF you scroll near to the bottom of the page, you will see on the bottom left just below the last posting "view all 360,000 Forums". CLick on that and you get a listing of all the forums, broken down by various categories. This will help you narrow down what category you prefer to see.
I hope that helps.

Nope. I'm looking at topics that have 300+ messages,
and i'm trying to locate one of them, by a keyword or a poster name.

I need a search engine search, not a tree navigation.

thanks,

I've had the same problem. I can google a name and get to the forum that way but I can't find the forum in the list of all 360,000. Is there an easier way to find a forum?

Hi Everyone,

Search for the forums is a big item on our "to do" list and we are working on it as we speak.

In the meantime, you can have better luck searching on Google if you do a site specific search by typing site:topix.net "searchphrase" in the search box where "searchprase" is the item you are searching for.

As soon as we get the search you (and WE!!) are hoping for, we will announce it right here.

An alternative would be a way to present a whole topic in a single or a few pages, so plain text search in the browser would work. Like "show 20/50/100/500" messages in a drop down. Then I'd have a chance.

It'd also be nice to have a help link when posting that would show what codes and syntax can be used for things like quoting and paragraphs. They never quite seem to do what I expect.

Tough to navigate. Is there a way to start a topic? Or to add your own city or state?

I see that Macon has one but don't see Atlanta.

Also, I see postings about illegal aliens bleeding over into all other topics but it does not have it's own area.

I suspect that if you're that keen to get a search functionality, you'll have to build one yourself... :D

I find this very confusing. I wish they would make the forums more user friendly!

Otherwise, Topix is an excellent site. Having a very difficult time tracking down posting threads. Google search doesn't always find it.
The problem is serious enough, I may have to just give up on topix.net .

Any progress been made on a search function? Thanks! In other words, what if I want to go back to something I wrote 6 months ago and I remember specific key words, like "bacteria flagellum". It would be great to be able to type in those search words and go right to where they are!

Google is your friend. A search using keywords topix urban cowboy and bacteria flagellum brings a few results. This is the first one. http://www.topix.com/forum/news/evolution/TCT...
