Judged: 1 1 There is a way to do that, but it's not a path that I would take. If you post a series of really offensive stuff and spam it all over, Topix will ban you and delete your account. When that happens, all of your posts will disappear. I'm not sure, but I think they have the ability to ban your IP address, so if you wanted to start up again, you'd have to use a different computer. I could be wrong, though, but if I am, hopefully, I'll be corrected by a Topix Admin. |

Judged: 1 Good morning Night Serf! How nice to see you in this forum. Are you playing the Topix game? If so, let me know, and I'll save some props for you. Any good singing gigs lately? :) |

No, I only post here if I have an idea that might be helpful or at least interesting. I mostly stick to the atheist forum these days, and the game is not afoot in that hunting ground. But it is good to see you here and there when I do wander farther afield. I played with the fabulous Melanie Hayes and her Meltones on Saturday night using my guitar synthesizer to provide a multi-instrumental accompaniment. Some of her larger group, the Good Times Rewind were there, too. It was fun. We did tunes from the early 20th century from groups like the Spirits of Rhythm, Slim and Slam, Stuff Smith, the Rhythm Rascals, and even a couple of Andrews Sisters tunes. It was a test gig, really, and we still have a ways to go before our show is really ready. The Beat 64 is ready to go--we just have to beat the bushes and find some gigs. On some of the songs, our vocals are nearly indistinguishable from the Beatles themselves. Not making money yet, but having fun. |

Judged: 1 1 I'm assuming nothing has changed in the Atheist Forums? Eventually I got tired and bored of reading the same things just wrapped up in a little different verbiage as well as all the folks getting so angry that someone believed differently from how they believe. I'm not much into proselytizing. Really good to see you. :) |

If I were an optimist, then that might explain the behavior of some posters. You know, as opposed to it being that they are just certifiable nut jobs. |

I'll have a look at some of the threads, but the last time I looked, there weren't any discussions that suited my approach to Topix. But things can change... |

Unfortunately, that seems to be the case on almost all forums. They very quickly degenerate into name calling, ad hominems and the like. Good to see you though. :) |

There are plenty of them here already. But at some point they all seem to deteriorate into name calling. I don't think that the majority of posters here would say the things they say here, in a face to face discussion. Maybe that's the point of Topix, to say the things that you are secretly thinking in your head but are to polite to say in person. This is still a very divided country. From politics, to religion, to "original recipe" or "extra crispy". Things get heated, things get ugly and not much gets accomplished. Better that people unload their frustration here then on their signifigent others... or the dog. Especially the dog :) |

I agree, I think that most of the posters who post the kind of vicious, ad hominems that seem to be norm, would NOT converse like that face to face. It probably IS because they believe they are anonymous, that they can let their worst attributes "shine through". lol I think that on most issues, people tend to be very divided and for some inexplicable reason, some folks believe that if you don't agree with them, then it's alright for them to attack you. And the cat, let's not forget that one should NOT take out one's frustrations on the cat! |

I actually enjoy talking about issues (social, political, religious, environmental, how much I despise Justin Beiber) with my teenagers and their friends. They are receptive to others ideas and have ideas of their own that I hadn't previously considered. I am 100% with you on the cat thing. Never piss off a cat. They will pay you back! |

Judged: 1 1 1 Has anyone noticed this story and thread? http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/anon... http://www.topix.com/news/topix/2012/04/anony... If it holds up, people will have to be more careful about what they post. I wonder whether a similar libel suit would hold up when a screen name is similarly attacked instead of a real-world name. For many of us, the reputations of our screen names are nearly as important as those of our real-world names, and its only a matter of time before such a suit is attempted. |

Some people just never understand that we are not the only sentient species on the planet, just the most sentient one. Dogs, cats, horses, even squirrels and rabbits think and feel. They just don't have language as a tool for more advanced thinking But they can feel anger, remember past insults and injuries, and take opportunities for vengeance as well as building trust and feeling affection. Yeah. Never piss off a cat. |
