All the locals have abandoned their towns site because of these trolls that have taken over. Read the post. Topix is doing nothing and has never done nothing to help. why? because they dont care. http://www.topix.com/city/eufaula-ok

I think topix will do something or we hope they will!! as we have all had enough of trolls. I think many trolls are sick adults or badly educated teenagers. Saw your link. You are right it does at the moment that topix do not do much but by leaving trolls to post they are destroying their forum and its reputation.

I've seen topix take care of TOS violators, so I know they do it. I know they also appear to allow for a certain amount of freedom of speech too.

There's a fine line, I understand.

http://www.topix.com/ext/feedback...
At the bottom of this Feedback page under the heading, "Other suggestions, kudos, or complaints" is a link that will allow you to shoot off a message. They do read them and they will generally respond.

It is advised that you include the 'permalink' of the offending post. This can be obtained by right clicking the post number then selecting "copy link location".

If you paste that into the message, they'll know exactly where to go.

I've never noticed that 'flagging' or using the 'Report Abuse' option has ever made any kind of difference. I imagine they're flooded with those, but I'm guessing.

Have fun.

I think topix urgently need to come up with a way to deal with and kill trolls as they are screwing a good forum.

The biggest problem on our forum is off-topic threads mistakenly finding their way to our forum.

It took some work, but I was able to get one removed. It took the person who initiated the thread writing to Topix.

I wish I could kill off-topic threads in our forum. That would help a lot.

oh my .. getting off topic threads removed that would be a merical.. i have seen so many threads that are so hateful even to be an editor and have a different opinion is bad.. they will make a topic putting that editor down that includes making a poll to ban you... i just laugh at it.. and file a complaint.
latest one called.."Should Moody12883 be kicked off topix?"

It is my opinion, that you are all too sensitive and can't handle it when someone posts a different opinion from yours. Then you cry "troll" becuase somewhere along the way you never learned how to fight your own battles. You are also probably suffering from control issues and when you lose a debate you can't quit so you look like idiots and then become targets. If you really can't handle a heated debate, you should take up cross word puzzles or something like cross-stiching and leave the online forums to those that can.
Example of off-topic thread: fan club discussion for a TV anchor in city from another part of the country, accidently on our forum. Not about opinion, it's about whether it's in the right forum.

well, I WANTED to say that in my town.. everyone is calling topix.. toxic to our community.. due to being in such a small town.. topix is bringing the local gossipers out into print instead of word of mouth..

There's one in my country page who is not an editor but uses the comments portion to post news different from the one posted by me as editor. Entirely different!

The deeper problem is that he does this with every story I post. In effect, he seems to be running another page within my country page. When I called his attention, he merely answered that that is the reason why he doesn't post his name!

I think we should have a contest who of us editors has the worst troll in our page. Mine, I think, tops them all.

Jane,
I think I would win that one. I have a troll that posts under several different names. When I call them out on one for attacking me, they try another, and another. The person e-mailed me and attacked me personally in the e-mail and on another board (not Topix). I sent an e-mail back to them with the wording provided to me by a police officer friend of mine that works in cyber-harassment:
"Please no longer e-mail, call or post directly to me as you are harassing me. This is your final warning."
The person still tries to attack me, but I ignore it which gets to them worse than me trying to defend myself or post back. So, here is my advice to everyone, if you ignore the troll they will quit as it bothers them more to get no attention than to get the attention that you supply. However, getting everyone else to go along with you on that may be a slight challenge.
Ah, yes, that's a more serious one. Sometimes it is hard to ignore.

What does a Topix Editor do?
Topix Editors find interesting and relevant news to share with their communities. Editors have access to special tools to find and promote stories that are read by millions of users. Editors can even post their own original articles and photos!. Please note that Topix Editors do not moderate the forums and cannot remove posts from the forums.

This is in the FAQ section of Topix. I became an editor partly to see if editorscan remove things.
So far I can't find a link to.

As an editor, you can MODERATE topics already posted by Roboblogger. Meaning, you can ask them to be deleted but must give your reasons why.

In my experience, that is where I found where MODERATING by the editor can apply - but never in the stories posted by others. You cannot delete them, neither your own comments.
