The strategy is control the capitol and base areas before confronting the opposition elsewhere. Degrade and chip away rebel areas of control and influence. Allepo so long as it is partly owned by the govt is a dagger to the north. Damascus will turn into a fight for homs, then hamah in a south to north arch. If the govt controls the border with lebanon, cutting off access to turkey and iraq, negotiations can start based on reality and not bravado. The govt will attack up the main highway towards aleppo and stop infiltration from lebanon. Aleppo has been the rebels stalingrad. The prize is damascus. The 200 mile border with jordan is problematic. The us has signaled it doesnt have the stomach for another land war in the me..id bet on the govt. The pressure will go thru the roof for a settlement if the govt continues its iniative and goes on the offensive with strength. The rebels beside fight must administer and feed and clothe occupied areas. Anecdotally, they dont appear equal to the challenge. Losers.

They would have, but he made them laugh like with the faces that he made!
