Apr 24, 2013 Full story: Reuters 35

Libya's central government has long had only a tenuous grip on the eastern city of Benghazi, but the bombing of the French embassy in Tripoli shows its control of the capital may now also be under threat.

It's OBAMA'S FAULT, wa-aaahhhh! Watch the insane, irrational Righties blame Obama because Libyans liberated their country. Watch them blame Obama and Clinton because some terrorists attacked our people there.

But don't watch for the truth, because they don't know it and wouldn't tell it if they did!:)

Yes, it is incomprehensible to think that a tribal cultures could easily embrace 'democracy'.

It's a completely different culture.

The spark that Bush started in the Middle East was the beginning of a WILDFIRE that continues to be fueled by the current administration.

No one cut off funding.

Reduction?????

Democrats enacted $1.803 billion for embassy security, construction and maintenance for fiscal 2010, when they still controlled the Senate and House. After Republicans took control of the House and picked up six Senate seats, Congress reduced the enacted budget to $1.616 billion in fiscal 2011, and to $1.537 billion for 2012.

The administration requested $1.801 billion for security, construction and maintenance for fiscal 2012; House Republicans countered with a proposal to cut spending to $1.425 billion. The House agreed to increase it to $1.537 billion after negotiations with the Senate.

The administration requested $1.654 billion for the State Departmentís Worldwide Security Protection program for fiscal 2012. House Republicans proposed funding the program at $1.557 billion. Congress eventually enacted $1.591 billion after the Senate weighed in.

"There's a lot of Monday morning quarterbacking going on here," Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said, but "we did" have air, land and sea assets in the Mediterranean region that could have been called upon when the consulate in Libya came under siege.

There was over a weeks warning.......there were Marines all over Europe at embassies and consualtes that could've been there within hours. The attack was not at a spur of the moment becuase of a video.....proven.

Cuts had nothing do do with it. Just another hillary/liberal lie, blame game and cowardly lack of responsibility. Now you fools are blaming Ron Pual for oblumbers sequster. He tried to bluff and they didn't take the bluff.. Good thing he doesn't play poker for a living.

Big deal.

What would teabaggers do?

Call in an air strike?

Dispatching marines into Benghazi, after everyone is dead?

Obam's mistake was not shutting down the embassy and consulate.

If it were up to me they still would be shut down but if they want to go, that's up to them.

"The attack was not at a spur of the moment because of a video.....proven".

Of course it was they said that under the direction of the CIA.

The CIA knew immediately, it was al qaeda.

I cited both the previous and the current administrations.

Neither have had much success in their foreign adventures.

All that freedom and democracy. How's that working for those folks whose countries we meddled in??

Sectarian violence in Iraq. Fighting in Libya.....

it is tough to go from a dictatorship to democracy overnight.

but self rule is better than a despot, isn't it?

Self rule, in theory is better.

And yet, there is no guarantee that things will be better for the people, or that corruption will disappear (i.e.Hamas in Palestine).

13 candidates for office in Iraq were killed and there have been many recent bombings in that country.

I agree that it takes time to transition to democracy.

Unfortunately there are the few who will do anything to have power and these strongmen are capable of destabilizing a struggling country.

Time will tell

Ditto Thatcher, of course.

VERY good, Eleanor! Yes, amazingly, there's NO guarantee that self-rule will work, as our Founders knew very well!

There's no guarantee that giving people a "homeland" in Palestine that they didn't deserve and hadn't lived in for 2000 years would work out, either - and it hasn't. Oops!
