A regime can't seriuosly expect to retain power long term over its citizens by using jet bombers on its own cities, what daily?. Sounds desperate to me.

Definately not a cost effective run, only 3 rebels killed. The SAA are not very good with their aim or Assad says just drop bombs, not sure which and perhaps both.

We can only imagine the nightmare of keeping these old Soviet jets running. I'm assuming that many aircraft mechanics, being Sunni have deserted the armed forces. Fuel and ammo may be at hand, but spare parts? And overhaul of engines for the Mig 21 and Su 22?

It's an excellent military strategy called scorched earth, and I'm sure the Russian and Chinese advisors are telling they Syrian military how to employ it. Sherman used it to obliterate the rebels in Atlanta during the American Civil War. The allies in WW2 used it as well, in Dresden, Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
