What a helluva civil war it will be when the miltants go or return to Saudi Arabia. They, the Saudis. have exported their troubles at home. Will they start trouble again in Iraq? The whole region is a tinderbox. Poverty mixed with fanatism plus ethnic and tribal hatred and oppresion plus technologies, communications, this could be the beginning of an unfathomable period of conflict and violence. The whole place a giant Somalia.

Plus can it be said a fight due to over population and the fight over land and the resources. The pressures are acute. Close your eyes it is the Hutus vs the Tutsis. Just another permutation.

Al-Sharq al-Awast (Middle East), a Saudi newspaper, reported a senior Free Army commander as saying “there is reliable information heralding a new Islamic state by al-Qaeda in the north of Syria.”

The source also maintained that the “zero hour will start in the first day of Eid al-Fiter (the Lesser Bairam), and that both the border crossings of Bab al-Hawa and Harem will make the next target; the first crossing (Bab al-Hawa) will be seized for controlling the flow of arms and ammunition, the second is for gaining funds through channeling oil outside Syria.”

The commander maintained that the plan was put into effect a week ago as a “Free Army” commander, Fadi al-Qesh, has been killed with his brother in al-Dana town.

Creating an "Islamic State" is what those extremists are all about.

Well, if they manage - then don't be surprised if Washington shifts gears down the road and starts training the Kurds to overthrow the Norther Islamic State and well, Turkey be damned.

"It's the best damn Government since Pericles," the American two-star General declared.

The government, about which the good General was so ebulient, was that of the Colonels' junta in Greece which came to power in a military coup in April 1967, followed immediately by the traditional martial law.

The coup had taken place two days before the campaign for national elections was to begin, elections which appeared certain to bring the veteran liberal leader George Papandreou back as prime minister. Papandreou had been elected in February 1964 with the only outright majority in the history of modern Greek elections. The successful machinations to unseat him had begun immediately, a joint effort of the Royal Court, the Greek military, and the American military and CIA stationed in Greece.

I really don't see why we should be reluctant to do in Turkey what we did in Greece and get rid of that Erdogan salafist troublemaker.
