Mitt Romney paid $1.95 million in taxes on his 2011 investment income of $13.7 million, his campaign revealed on Friday, making good on Mr. Romney’s promise earlier this year to eventually release his full returns for that year.

Mr. Romney, who made millions by running Bain Capital, a private equity firm, paid an effective federal tax rate of 14.1 percent in taxes, primarily because most of his income was in the form of capital gains that are taxed at a lower rate than ordinary income.

So is Dirty Harry lying ?

Romney only claims 1/2 of his charitable contributions.

Let the class-warfare here on TOPIX begin anew.

Romney paid more $$$ than Obummer & biden COMBINED. Romney gave more to charity that Obummer and biden COMBINED . Romney knows how to handle money and how to fix the economy . You should vote for him because soon the rest of the world will stop loaning money to the USA because of our STUPENDOUS $ 16,000,000,000,000.00 debt , and then your welfare , unemployment , and disability checks will no longer be there for you......!!

If we decide to go along with this "logic", shouldn't we make Bill Gates or Warren Buffett President?

20% of his income paid in taxes. 13.5% of his income paid to charities. 33.5% of his income paid to benefit those not paying taxes and otherwise disadvantaged. Still, the Leftist slime complain and want more. You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. "The proud have risen against me; violent men have sought my soul."

What about his accounts in places like the Cayman Islands? A person doesn't go to the trouble of putting small change in places like that.

14.1 percent in taxes? The 2011 Federal tax cap for people making less than $34,500 is 15%. For people making less than $69,675 the cap is 25%. So per dollar Romney paid under the cap for low-income and middle-class families.

Tax returns for 2011 set to be released today by Mitt and Ann Romney reveal that they gave away a higher percentage of their income to others than did Barack and Michelle Obama, when both taxes and charity are taken into account.

Lets say you have worked for 50 years, paid all your taxes, and are now retired. You're living off your investments you made while working. You would pay capital gains tax every year, which is capped at 15%.

That is what Romney is doing. He's in his 60s, basically retired and living off his investments. His takes advantage of legal tax breaks given to those who give to charity, which makes his tax burden even lower.

Hope that helps.

Oh, and the Cayman Islands account was closed in 2010. The only reason anyone knows about it is because when he did that- he paid taxes on the interest earned, as relfected on his tax return.
