"Speaking in tongues and other spiritual gifts were first rediscovered in the United States during the 1906 Asuza Street revival, which launched the worldwide Pentecostal movement. But those practices remained largely isolated in denominations like the Assemblies of God and the Church of God in Christ.
"That changed in 1960, when an Episcopal priest named Dennis Bennett from St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Van Nuys, Calif., began preaching to his congregation about speaking in tongues. The movement soon spread across the United States."
Today, Rev Bennet would probably be ostracized by TEC for not being inclusive towards those who don't speak in tongues.

Dop Finto of late has come to call himself an "apostle."
Another hyperecumenical character with roots in the Churches of Christ, Jim Bevis, also makes a claim of apostleship. Bevis has been chumming and trolling around the Florence/Muscle Shoals area for years, proclaiming that a great revival is at hand. It hasn't happened.
Watch out for anyone who, like Finto, claims to have had some kind of revelatory wilderness experience with God.
