This one has a major flaw in its theory.

Gamma ray bursts are radiation which in concentration will add energy to pre existing nuclei. The result of a GRB will be a spallation of nuclei rather than an addition event such as occurred with the creation of 14C, and 10Be.

The likely culprit is not a GRB but instead a more likely event was a high energy spatfall of protons and alpha particles in a cosmic ray shower event; probably from an X ray nova event. The Neutron star Geminga is a more likely culprit.

Another source of high energy cosmic rays would be a nova explosion within 30 light years from Earth but this would be immediately visible (therefore discarded).

An X ray flare would be hard to see, and would be more likely to fit the bill. Geminga is the most likely candidate as it is a copious source of gamma rays and is a magnetar. The likely cause of a particle flare would be either a "glitch", lofting nuclei off the surface or changing the direction of nuclei in orbit. or alternatively a large rock landing on the neutron star resulting in a spectacular flare and a particle burst heading back out into space.

One other item of note is that gamma ray bursts add energy to nuclei which transforms their protons & neutrons into a metastable higher energy configuration. The result of a GRB would be a sudden decay event of radionuclides via Beta or alpha (or fission), as a result of energy input. The result would likely have been an absence rather than a presence of 14C & 10Be in particular, as this pair of radionuclides would be rather common.

This of course means that a GRB would spell a lot of trouble for fission reactor piles as a storm of alpha & beta decay + fission would result from a particularly energetic GRB. This of course would be academic as the GRB would heat the atmosphere and sterilise most lifeforms on the hemisphere hit by a GRB of that magnitude.
