I just started coaching a year ago. I coach high school boys basketball, coed cross country and track and field as well as select boys and girls basketball teams. I always try to not give ammunition to parents of athletes that i don't give playing time too. Not give them anything they can get mad at me for or sue me for that I did or didn't do. So I tend to think's prudent that I ATTEMPT to shower before or after the boys on my team do. But on occasion they walk in on me naked in the shower or i walk in on them.

They are 14-18 year olds. I am 33 years old. We all have the same equipment. I don't have anything that they don't. OK so I'm bigger than some of them and some of the young boys are very small and are probably interested in looking at me and the older boys. But do you think a boy and a man (and a player and a coach) should or shouldn't shower together?

Also the boys and the girls know I have a hot tub at my house since they have been over for team dinners. Recently they have been using it with me. Again, should I see my girl players in skimpy bikinis?

PS - Obviously nothing sexual is going on.

I don't see anything wrong with it. You're just showering. However I would not try to do it. Like you said only when necessary. You don't need heat.

I would stay away from teen girls in bikinis at ALL costs! Girls today look older and act older! You and a teen or teens on hot tub is a recipe for disaster and a lawsuit!

teens in bikinis at your home is WRONG!! you are liable to be accused at some stage. personally i think even having the kids over at all is a bit creepy, unless their parents are with them. i really hope that this is just another fantasy story because buddy you are on the way to a lot of hurt, accusations and a short career....and well on your way to learning a new shower routine...and your butt wont stay virgin....keep educational activities in the confines of the establishments made for them. these people are pupils not friends...

I would recommend not showering with the boys.

If you were coaching college or professional
athletes it would probably be okay, but with
grade school or high school, I would say no.

As far as seeing the young girls in bikinis,
I would say definitely not. You are asking for
trouble by having young students (boys or girls)
over to your house to use your hot tub.

Assuming you are not a pervert, it still does not
look good, and you would be opening yourself
up for all kinds of accusations and trouble.

Why would you need to shower? It's been my experience that coaches don't do anything very vigorous that would warrant needing a shower. I would think you could wait until you got home.

As for having kids over at your home. Make sure their parents are there at all times and there should be no problem. This will keep you from having any accusations against you.

In most setting of this nature it is required there be two adults of each gender at all functions. That's usually the law.

exactly, this story sounds too strange. I coach, and there is no reason for me to shower before or after a game or practice. I'm not the one playing, therefore I don't sweat enough to shower afterwards. Shower at home and avoid problems. Sounds to me like you are the one who wants to watch them in the shower, and you are on your way to some big problems. Now, the girls in the hot tub is a no brainer, you will get in big trouble fast and I'm sure you know better.

Best start looking for your new career, your going to need it. Anytime you put yourself in the position of any kind of sexual issue coming up in the education environment, either warranted or not, it will come up sooner or later. All it takes is one pissed off kid or parent.

Its simply not police state PC, that's all you have to know.

Besides, America is the mother of PC, there's no way teen girls are sharing a spa with you.

In Britain I might have believed you.

the US is race, class and aged divided

What ever prejudice there is it comes from America.

How do you think the White House keeps everyone divided

And adult showering with teens is ASKING for trouble.

If you do it, you're a fool.

If you even have to ask, I seriously question your judgment.

When I used to teach PE and sports I was REQUIRED to watch the lads shower. It was part of the curriculum required in state and I believe federal LAW! Of course that was 1970-1995, before parents told government what was best for society, when what all they really cared about was their own child. I took early retirement to get out from under meddling parents watching every move. My guess is that you aren't a sicko as rarely a coach and teacher is. Best beware though of the vultures that are parents and lawyers. They are watching.

I have a question about having school kids shower together.

When I was in school in the late 60's, early 70's this was SOP.

So my questions are:

1. Why are males and females not allowed to shower together ?

2. If the answer is that it is because of sex, then why are gayboys allowed to shower with str8 boys ?

If the answer to that is because you cannot always tell the difference between the two, then isn't it logical that all students should shower individually after gym ?

comments ?

I never showered after gym class.

I always managed to get out of it
some how.

I did not like the idea of showering
with a bunch of other guys.

To this day I don't shower in public
showers (gyms, etc.).

Well I appear to have a few people agree or understand me, but most seem to think I'm a fool. LOL. Well thanks for all caring enough to respond, but perhaps more info would help.
Remember in my OP I talked about roap trips and such. Like at cabins, hotels, dorms, being hosted at opponents gyms. I DID NOT mean after after a home game or a game 15 minutes from school or after a practice!! Remember I said I tried to avoid showering, showering under those other circumstances would just be crazy! Of course I sweat a lot as a coach during games (despite what you guys say) and sometimes during practices but I have my own private shower at school but 99.9% of the time I wait till I get home.
I'm talking about three day retreats to a camp before season begins. Three day road trips during the season. Four day state trips at the end. A couple week long summer tournaments. I also coach select teams and summer camps!
I just got back from a five day camp at a college dorm. The dorm showers had a middle changing area and 6 tiny private showers at either end. They were so tiny you couldn't take clothes in. So you quickly get naked and jump in so others don't see much. I really did try to shower when know one else was showering but with three schools of 10-15 kids each on each floor and teams play 4-5 games a day plus eating and other activities, and it's over 100 degrees, it's hard to find a minute during the day when the showers aren't in use.
I also was not the only coach showering naked. Like I said there were 3 teams on my floor with 2-4 coaches (plus around 5-6 other floors the same).
Every shower floor plan is different as is the way the players seem to shower.
At school when the rarely shower (they too usually wait till they get home) they usually shower with shorts or underwear on since they can throw the wet shorts in a bag and wash them at home.
On the road they can't pack enough underwear and shorts to to that and they don't want to travel with or sleep near wet shorts.
A lot of the indivdusl showers you can either show nothing or just for a few seconds.
Sometimes they have no option but the communal showers.
So I hope that explains it better. And I'm not the only coach. And I would and have refused to shower with them at small communal showers.
Regarding the hot tub with girls. I should have mentioned that there is always another adult there (coach) and boys as well. Still some of the girls wear revealing bikinis that are quite risqué. But I figure that's between them and their parents. Other girls wear conservative one pieces.
I don't always get in with them. But when I do, others are always around.
And these aren't hot tub parties. It's always after a practice or dinner/get together.

Daniel - that's actually a question I had before. It turns out that a couple of my ex high school teammates were gay (and I'm sure PE classmates too). And when I got over the shock , I realized how many times he got a free look at me and others. Now I'm not a homophobe just jealous that he got to get his rocks off while I would get expelled if I walked into girls shower and showered with them.

I think this is why schools built today often either don't have showers or are individual.

What someone told me is this (and it makes sense). If showers were coed, besides the parental and media outrage, there WOULD be incidents ranging from gawking, to inapropriate comments, to touching, to sex, to rape. Same sex homosexuals showering can be exciting for gays and offensive to straights but won't have problems as high school gays tend to be nonaggressive and would likely get beat up if they were aggressive.

regardless of the circumstances or who else is around sometimes there are allegations made that could cost you your job, ultimatley it's up to you if you want to risk losing your career, hot tub parties are not appropriate anyway have a dinner in a public place it's just common sense use it.

I understand your point. And I bright it up. I often say that if you have to ask it probably isn't. But I also say that there are often exceptions to every rule.

Please remember it's not a hit tub party. It's usually after a run. For a month before any athlete had ever been at my house, I recomemended to them go and cold baths and showers and if they had a hot tub or a pool to use it often. It's a proven fact thatvhot tubsxaid in muscle recovery. Were tring to win a state title. Hot tubs will help. Of course a scandal wouldn't help.

But honestly for a forum that is loaded with infest and beastiality, this is no more scandulous than going to the beach or city pool (which we also do).

Either I am doing a real poor job explaining the situation, people here don't understand sport, all the freaks are avoiding this topic and only the prudes are commenting, or I am way off myself.
