I had a similar experience in Jr. High School where we were required to be nude for our swimming class. On the first day I felt awkward--not so much because I was nude, but because I was one of only a few with pubic hair. But everyone soon became comfortable with each other.

Where is your gym? I grew up in the boston area and don't think I ever heard of open showers in the woman's locker room. After traveling around the country it seems to be a north-east thing for the private stalls. The rest of the country is more comfortable with open showers, but not in the liberal north.

I used to live in Queens, New York City. When I was 13 my aunt took me to Prince Street, in Flushing. There is a Korean woman's sauna there. Interesting. My older sister was required to shower after gym class in High School, but by the time I got there it wasn't mandatory and no one did. From what I read that used to be common throughout the US but isn't so common today except in some places. Where did you go to Jr. High and when?

I was in junior high in the early 90s. By the time I got to high school, showering (and PE class for that matter) were no longer mandatory.

Yah, I started high school in the late 90s and showers were no longer required, but my sister who is 5 yrs older had to shower. We grew up outside Chicago. But I have younger cousins who live in Calif. and they still have to shower. Did you grow up in Kansas?

Sounds like your shower-room had the same window setup mine did.

My first two years of high school I went to a progressive little school with a lady gym teacher.(I think that was unusual back then, and that she was the school's first one.)

I always thought it was kind of cute. And the innocent explanation was that she needed to go in there in order to prepare for her next class. After all, the time we were showering and changing was also the only time she had between classes.

But a lot of the other boys interpreted her going in there as something sexual. They said that she was peeking. That she wanted us. And that she would bend over leisurely while going through her file cabinets while we stood there watching from the showers probably didn't help.

During my two years at that school a number of boys boasted to us that she had had sex with them. But I never believed any of them. I'm sure it was all just school boy fantasy - fueled both by her beauty and her trips to her office.

In high school, we showered in a group, about 20 shower heads. I was 13 as a Freshman. It was a little embrassing, as we were in different stages of development. Some guys were cut, some not. some had little equipment.
A gym I went to for a while, had about 6 showers.
Guys would wear a towel as they walked back to their locker.
I shaved my sack for a while. My wife thought it was gay. Some guys shave every thing, and now piercing is hot with the younger guys.

I live in IN. I don't think many men do. I think it may have more to do with your age. I was listening to Cosmo, on Sirius radio. They were trying to break the record for the most females in a bikini, at Miami
