Once again, the Marin DA's office jumps the gun and goes to trial on a weak case. How much more time and money is this office wasting on cases that could be bargained out or, as in this case, should not have even been charged at all? Was this politically motivated? One has to wonder.

It's amazing how many women have no problem putting a guy in prison for five years to life, just to somehow help them feel like they did nothing wrong.

Some guys pay a very large price for someone eles's guilt.

Since she was proven not to be a victim, what's her name and why isn't she serving the nine years.

Aquitals in two recent homocide trials and now one in a month long rape trial. Maybe it's time to seek a new DA who has a bit better judgement and control of his office.

One of my teammates in college was accused of rape. He lost his scholarship before he evn went to trial. Even after he was acquitted, there was no apology, no offer to put him back on scholarship, and constant harrassment from campus victims' groups! He was basically run out of town while the "victim" remained in school. For most people he was guilty despite the verdict. So weak.

Regarding the DA's office. Apathy of the voters is the reason why we've had one of THE weakest DA's offices in California. No one gives a damn until suddenly they realize the office has no guts or teeth. The office leadership has been handed off to successors for nearly 20 years. It is time not only for a change in leadership, but to clean out all the old dead wood, people who should have retired long ago. We need a DA who is NOT from the old boys/girls network, and who will NOT have it handed to him/her by the current DA once he leaves.

I honestly don't trust anyone anymore. I have
witnessed women who said they were in love and
then turn around a slap the prince with a restraining order. It's not their fault-I don't
know what happened? It's too easy for someone to accuse someone in our current legal system. This
guy had a good lawyer, how about the guys who
have to rely on a public defender? Violence against women is disgusting, and this guy's case sounds fishy? I know of a guy's who really never did anything-except cheat-and were accused of horrid things by their girlfriends. Society has become so accustomed to the way my father and grandfather treated women-they forgot my generation was taught by "mother's of the 60's"
that "no-means no".

I think the DA made the right decision to go to trial. It was up to the jury to decide guilt, not the DA. The DA did their job accordingly by taking this complaint seriously (even though she lied). It's a sad waste of money for trials like this, but could you imagine the beef the DA's office would get if they blew off this complaint. Perhaps they should send the "victim" a bill for the cost of the trial..just a thought.

A tragedy for all involved. So why is the DA not prosecuting the alcohol abuse by underage drinkers ? Why is the School's president for lowering the drinking age after this incident ? Clearly many young people cannot handle alcoho so the drinking age should remain at 21 or even be raised.

For all the cases like this, there are thousands more where rapists get away with it. It's obviously a tragedy when someone is falsely accused and their name is smeared, but women have suffered immensely throughout history because as a rape victim, they were not believed.

Anne, congratulations for standing up for the concept of "gender warfare" as a basis for justifying this abuse of justice by the DA.

Yeah, sure, we should prosecute one man based on clearly defined lies and switched stories, just because "women have suffered immensely". Sheesh. That's as sensible as saying we should nuke Arabs because "Americans have suffered immensely" at the hands of Arab terrorists. Take your sick ideas of punishing people based on their gender, race, culture, or religion somewhere else, please.

One of the duties of a DA is to avoid putting innocent people through the burden of a trial--even when it might be "politically expedient" to go to trial. Here, the Marin DA failed miserably--except to endear himself to yet another special interest group.
