Abdul Rao was the victim in this case. He was targeted by the ex-CEO (Dr. Potter) and his employee (Tim Boyd).

I agree, Dr. Rao did so much for this university and than this is how he gets treated.

Dr. Rao's departure from USF has left a big vacuum in the research administration. He was the best thing that had ever happened to USF. As a graduate student in medicine, we were very sad to see the baseless allegations against him and his decision to leave the university.

Dr. Rao brought discipline in a organization that is made up of individuals who are corrupt. I wish he had stayed.

I used to work at Byrd when USF took over the failing organization. We cheered when Dr. Rao was named the COO. He did a wonderful and most difficult job in a very short period of time. When he left, I also decided to resign and leave. It is not the same place now.

I am also a graduate student at USF and I am so sorry that Dr. Rao was targeted by the ex-leadership at Byrd. At USF, we have more than 1000 abandoned bikes which faculty, staff and students "loan" to use on the large campus. The rule is if the bike is unlocked you can use it and leave it at your destination for others. We do that all the time and for Dr. Rao to be targeted int his way is very sad.

I am a undergraduate student at USF who takes classes at the College of Public Health. I have seen Victor the homeless guy on many occasions. Most of the time he is washing faculty and staff cars int eh parking lot. He seems to know a lot of people on the campus and they seems to know him and trust him. I am not sure what was wrong in Dr. Rao loaning a bike to him. I am alomost certain that others have also done that with Victor.

Chris, that does not mean that Dr. Rao should agree to loan the bike to Victor which does not belong to him?

Jim you missed the point. Do you know the culture at USF? We have a very large campus and it is difficult to drive in your cars from one campus building to another. The student, staff and faculty routinely used what are considered abandoned unlocked bikes to travel between campus buildings for classes or meeting. Dr. Rao has taught us and I believe he thought that this bike was abandoned since it was unlocked. Even if it was a mistake, it was unintentional.

No, I am not a aware of this culture but still do not agree that Dr. Rao should have allowed this homeless man to borrow a bike that did not belong to him.

Dr. Potter the previous CEO hated Dr. Rao. I once went into his office and he and Tim Boyd the staff who claimed it was his bike were playing a dart game with Dr. Rao's photograph as a target. This was two month before this incident happened. It is very sad what they did with Dr. Rao who making all the required changes at Byrd. Had it nor been for Dr. Rao's effort, Byrd would be financial ruined by now.

I also learned last week that because Dr. Rao had left the Byrd, they will not be refunding the ADRC grant. They do not believe that the current leadership at Byrd or USF will be able to deliver. Sad state of affiars...what will Dr. Hunt Potter and Tim Boyd do now? Their pay came from this grant.

Its really amazing to see that all these posts were grouped together by time frame with the same "United States" generic IP.

The Dr was a common criminal who harrassed the student victims involved and I'm also sure that THE Jihad University paid a hefty fee to make sure that it turned out this way

Rao stole a bike and gave it away. The bike was not his to give. He committed a crime. The fact that a Jury or a judge never saw this case and its merits decided only by the office of the State Attorney never really put a real ending to it and no where does it mean he's not GUILTY. The fact is that the State didnt want to deal with all the nonsense with this case and looked at the fact that this thief lost his job over this and most likey believed that it was punishment enough.
Also to the post that says there are bike just lying around for anyones use... good try but you're talking out of your azz.

Wow! Talk about some spin on the story. These students are fictitious on this site. I was there folks. Potter is not a man to throw darts at someone. Bolix. Rao just sat tight for a year and is trying to fix his image. THERE IS NO WAY THE CHARGES SHOULD HAVE BEEN DROPPED. Maybe the video should resurface on Youtube for a retrial. And Victor Waiters? Look up his record. 29 arrests (many cocaine charges) and 5 children with 4 women that are after him for child support! Cleaning cars in the parking lot. He's a career criminal. Rao is no pillar of the community. Never was and never will be.

This article were written by Abdul Rao himself. He always said "Byrd" instead of "The Byrd" and Dr. Hunt instead of Dr. Potter. I know him well. He is a liar and is manipulative. This is no different. There is no Burt, no Molly, no Susan, no Sam, No Jane, no David, no Chris, and no Sarah- They are all Dr. Rao himself both writing and commenting on this article. I can attest, most faculty hated him and EVERY student hated him. Nobody would write such nice things about him from USF. We are glad he is gone, gone, gone!!!

Is this a joke? Abdul Rao was like the witch in the Wizard of Oz and all of us flying monkeys cheered when he was gone! We had a huge party!! This is clearly concocted BS. "Susan" anyone who knows Dr Huntington Potter would never believe anyone saying he was throwing darts at pictures...that is lunacy! I'm disgusted. Fact: The bike was not abandoned, it was locked and used on the same day...this is America people we don't just break locks and grab random bikes that are not ours to "share" with other people. The charges should not have been dropped! This article is distasteful and I feel nauseated having read it.

Now that I've rinsed my mouth from the vomit I think I'll buy a dart board!

“Susan,” really? As someone who knows Dr. Potter and his level professionalism, these allegations would be comical if they didn’t actually make me sick! A dart game with Rao’s picture is totally out of character for an upstanding gentleman and scientist like Dr. Potter. He is a noble man and would not do something so childish, and most certainly not with a student whom he is mentoring. Be assured, however, that Dr. Rao was not well liked on the USF campus. I have been in other faculty offices, with no connection to the Byrd whatsoever, and have seen such a dart board. There was elation across the campus when Rao resigned. Sure, some miss him. Far more do not.
