ETHEX Corporation recalled all strengths of its version on Wednesday and Sandoz apparently issued recalls, although not widely announced, in September and November 2008.

I was changed to Metatoprol ER 100mg in Nov 08. Started having pain in balls of both feet and both hands, fingers stiff and swollen. Sometimes both knees hurt. Never connected it with the medicene. I have taken myself off for two weeks now and pain is much less but not gone yet.

My druggist switched me back to Topral XL, 100mg, and I discovered I could sleep again. After taking the metoprolol before bedtime, I would be wakeative through the night. Now that I am on Topral XL, I sleep through the night.
My husband was on metropolol, 25mg, for a slight tremor in his hands. When the druggist changed him to the new generic metoprolol manufacturer, his blood pressure dropped to 70/40 and he fainted. He is now on the Topral XL.

Just found out today but was not given the reason by Walgreens Pharmacy. I have been taking Matatoprol because of my insurance (Humana)always makes you take generic unless specified by Dr. Does anyone know the reason why it was recalled?

Beware! Metoprolol is pure poison. I was on Metoprolol 100 mg 3 times a day for tachycardia and hypertension. It did control the tachycardia but not the blood pressure. Was also on Azor, Maxzide and Lasix. I had extreme fatigue, could not stay awake. Absolutely NO energy. About to lose my job of 20 years because I could not keep up. I am 54 years old, have always been active. For 8 months, while on Sandoz and/or Ethex Metoprolol, I would only walk a few feet at a time. Then HAD to sit down or collapse. My heart actually hurt. When I bent over to pick up anything, my heart hurt. When I stood up from sitting position, my heart hurt. When I took a deep breath, my heart hurt. I felt as if I had to always think about breathing or it seemed i would forget to do so. Ankles and feet constanly, hugely swollen even though I was on 2 diuretics. Doctors could find no reason. Cardio work up revealed only slight enlargement of the left ventricular. They said that was probably from years of untreated sleep apnea. Hands and feet always ice cold. Hands stayed numb to the point that I couldn't feel them. I was at the point I no longer cared if I lived or died. I was so tired that I could not enjoy anything. Could not do housework. Sweeping, vacuuming, mopping were impossible tasks. My personal grooming went to hell because taking a shower was too strenuous. Had to lie down for at least 2 hours after bathing before I could even get dressed, put on makeup or style my hair. I was in absolute, total misery. Slept at least 14 hours out of every 24 but NEVER felt rested or refreshed. Could not walk thru a store. Was diagnosed with polycythemia (overproduction of red blood cells.) I had blurred vision, could not concentrate or focus on anything. Short term memory completely went to hell. I kept telling doctors how badly I felt, nobody could figure out the reason. I could go on and on. Finally, only by accident, I found out that Sandoz and Ethex had recalled their horrible drug. I called for an appointment with my doctor and while waiting to get in (one week) I started cutting down the dose of the Metoprolol. Started taking 50 mg 3 times a day, then 50 mg 2 times a day, then 50 mg once a day. Began to feel a little better, not good, but not as bad. Then BAM, tachycardia back, worse than ever. Went to my doctor who said all my problems were most likely caused by Metorpolol. Changed me to Bystolic 5 mg once a day. This is going to sound too good to be true, but as God is my witness, within one day of being off Metoprolol and on Bystolic, I felt like myself again. Had energy, could walk, could concentrate, could breathe and NO more heart pain. I thank God and give Him the glory. I urge anyone who is on Metoprolol and having any of the symptoms I was having to see their doctor as soon as possible. Tell your doctor you want off this dreadful drug. Bystolic is controlling my tachycardia and blood pressure. Have been able to get off the Azor and Lasix. Still taking Maxzide but may be able to get off it too. Doctor says polycythemia was caused by Metoprolol and my blood level has been getting better. That diagnosis will probably be reversed if blood count continues to be okay. Metoprolol should be outlawed. People should be warned.

im 29 yrs old, i have hyperthyroidism. i have been taking metoprolol now for about 2 or so months. it has helped my tachycardia,but i have noticed a sharp pain in my heart also,like a constant stabbing at times. omg and the night dreams i can go to bed normal and wake up totally disoriented because im at the foot of the bed, sometimes i even manage to get a shirt off, or try to beat my husband up, the next morning i dont remember a thing. just recently my feet and ankles have been swelling, and when i stand for too long they start burning and feels like little needle pricks in them..all i wanna know is it the meds or what..dont think i can take much more of this...

I AGREE IM 44YRS OLD BEEN ON TOPROLXL 150MG TWICE A DAY FOR 2YEARS SINCE JAN O9 MIVE HAD SYMPTOMS THAT HAVE BECAME WORSE OF SWELLING OF FACE,FEET, HANDS ABDOMEN SHORT TERM MEMORY VISION BLURRED TINGLING IN LEGS FEET AND FINGER TIPS. WEAKNESS IN LEGS AND JUST A GENERAL FATIGUE SENSATION CANT PERFORM AT WORK CANT WALK THRU WALMART WITH OUT SWEATING OR LEGS GETTING SWOLLEN,,IM STILL ON THE MED FOR IRREGULAR HEART RATE AND ANGINA WHEN I MISS A DAY OR 2 I FEEL BETTER BUT I GET CHEST PAINS.IM CONFUSED BECAUSE MY DOCTORS KEEPS GIVING IT TO ME .....IM FALLING APART AND I FEEL LIKE IM OVER A 100 YEARS OLD ...WHAT DO I DO ??????????

...Nbut im still on it and my cardiologist or primary care giver has not said one word to me . I just found outnow i lost my health insurance and was looking for a place to get my rx cheap came ,Across this site and was blown away .Because ive been with these exact same issues in the last 7 months thinking it was me being stress out from lossing my job .But its not Iant to know if there is someone willing to take on are cases and take this to court for us and im sure many more people like me who are unaware

i too have problems on metoprolol succ 25mg/ once a day. have trouble breathing. cant do my house work or go shopping. im too out of breath. going in to take a shower is a killer im worn out. what makes this happen and im on a small dose. how do i go off it.

I was prescribed Metoprolol (Lopressor) 25mg a day about 2 1/12 years ago during a routine visit when I had a blood pressure of 150/90. Since that time my BP has stayed around 115-125/60 something/low 70s. My resting heart rate varies from high 40s to low 60s/min. I also started swimming laps which is off and on again. The medicine seems to work well for me without any noticeable side effects at all. Both my mom and dad had high blood pressure. I'm now in my mid fifties so I guess it's my turn now.

I have been experiencing the same thing.....the increased heart palpitations increased hypertension, cold feet, headaches, insomnia and chest pain. I did not experience any of this, until I started taking this medication. The irony is the doctor realized the increased pulse rate, hypertension and palpitations and recommended further testing, but I know nothing is wrong.....it's the medication.

Just remember to stick to your guns. I was on this med for 4 years and it really messed up my life. Some people just have these types of problems with it. You should be taking something else.

My Dad has been on Metoprolol for alittle over a year. He who never complains, has been having pain in his legs, feet, cramping in legs and arms, foggy thinking, numbness feeling on face, fatigue, lack of muscle strength and generally not feeling great with lack of energy. Please let me know if any of you have had these same type of concerns. Thank you so much. We are trying to determine how to help him. We would value any feedback you might have.

My mother was taking this drug she has swelling of her ankles and terrible headaches the next morning I don't like to see my mother in pain isn't there some way they can test these drugs before putting them out on the market
