I had problems with CVS filling my cartia script last month. Said it was backordered. I transferred and filled it at Walgreens. Called watson they said they were still producing the drug. Although, insurance will not cover the cost of a "safety supply". I have located and purchased with cash a years supply of Cartia to have on hand in case the drug is out of production again. I will be rotating stock so I always have a years worth on hand.

Thanks Arnold. My goodness where in the heck do you get a year's worth and do you mind saying how much that was? I didn't even know you could do that. Hopefully after Monday's visit to the doctor, he'll change my script back to the Cartia XT because I never had a problem with my BP until they stopped making it. Clearly by all these posts, all these generic diltiazems not being created equal is not in my head, lol. Thanks everyone for their input!

you had a carioversion and still had to take all the medications?? I am scheduled for one on 3/21/11 and "my" plan was not to have to take the medications post period. your comments will be appreciated and how you have done since the cardioversion. Leah in Oregon

but I kept reading about the side effects of amioderone. In July, when I refilled my prescription for amioderone, I was given Cartia by Walgreens. I was upset at first to be at the Mercy of the pharmacy to change my meds at will. In this case, I guess I got the better of the deal. I am so sick of being administered to by the pharmaceutical industry. It scares the pee-waden out of me. We seemingly have no rights. Can anyone tell me I have it all wrong?

Thanks to everyone for this information. My mother is 81 years old and was on Diltiazem and just picked up her refill and it was the Cartia XT she went into a panic thinking she got the wrong medication from her pharmacy. So I began my "research" online and came across this thread. She has been having muscle and bone pain and not feeling like herself for a long time (thinking it was from the Diltiazem since that appears to be a "side effect") he heart dr put her on this medication and it looks like it was around when they stopped production of it. I am hopeful now that her pharmacy gave her the Cartia XT her sore muscles and painful bone issues will change. Her primary dr couldn't find a reason for them. All the "medication" sites weren't very helpful as far as either of these meds. This discussion helped me the most. So thank you all for sharing your experiences I wish you all luck and good health!

I have been reading all the comments in regard to Diltiazen. I don't kinow if this medication is for two different purposes but I was given this whilst in hospital afer having a pacemaker operation. The medical reason I was prescribed this was to slow my heart rate down. I only took it one day and ceased it as it made my heart go a lot faster resulting in dizziness, short of breath to the extent I had to lay down.My doctor said this was a side affect and I immediately told them I would not continue to take it.

Have recently started taking thrombix which was recommended by my pharmicist as the generic brand in replacement of cartia. I have had a mettalic taste in my mouth since taking the thrombix. Has anyone else had this problem?

My Mom has been on Cartia for years and I went to Walgreens today to get her refill and was given the TAZTIA XT 300MG (DilTIAZEM)Has Anyone else been given these for a replacement for Cartia lately? After reading these post I dont know if my Mom at the age of 86 should be a "guinea pig" for BIG PHARMA. It only takes 1 time of taking a med that doesn't agree with a person and it could be irreverseible.
